Arrugh - Kryptonite Locks

Chu

Lost the keys to my Kryptonite Locks. So far it has resisted :

1. Industrial strength (3 ft. long handles) lock cutters.

2. Dremel

What's next on the list to try to cut this stupid thing 🙁 I know LN2 + Sledgehammer is the preferred way, but I have no access to a deckard flask off campus.

The jaws of life (you may need to convince the fire department that there's a person trapped in the bike)

Hmm... I don't know if you can get any pure magnesium, but that would work. Strip the plastic or paint around the area to be cut, and wrap the magnesium around that area. Light it.

If it fails to melt through, pack thermite around the whole thing and light it.

walmart has it

once saw this thing on tv about theives, they had a bike thief describe how he stole bikes, he used a small car jack, and would pop k-locks in like 15 sec. I think it's the kind that you stick the handle in and turn, and the ends separate. Hope that kinda helps

something like this

If you were closer to me I could come over there with my 12000lb winch and pop that sucker off. Or rip down your bike room. One or the other.

There's a Web site out there where a guy posted his experiment in taking out a U-lock with liquid nitrogen and a big hammer. I looked it up when some moron put his lock through my wheel. It worked, but he had to hit it in the right place. The experiment was on a cheap Masterlock, though.

I don't think the CO2 will get cold enough... or that you'll have enough to freeze the lock if it did.

If the lock is in a place that won't damage your bike much, you might try the car jack.

The two least risky methods (I think) are:

(1) call Kryptonite and get the replacement key. You did write down the key code, right??!

(2) Rent one of those giant, gasoline powered circular saws with a diamond blade... and wear ear/eye protection, and keep the sparks under control. That's how the bike enforcement dweebs on our campus handle the situation.

Good luck.
