So my kids like playing peggle.. which is pretty addictive. But anyway I bought it through steam. At the time I only had the steam client on my gaming PC. So now they are hogging my gaming PC. I installed steam on a laptop thinking they could play there while I played L4D. But with steam this seems to be a no-no. I just figured you could not play the same game at the same time.

Is there anyway to transfer a game or use the account and be able to play on more than one PC at the same time?

I did not think about this aspect of steam... but it sucks.

I'm thinking your best bet is to register for a new steam account, swallow the price and purchase a second peggle.

I know that once a game gets activated on an account, it cannot be removed from that account, so I think your SOL.

I have an idea though: could you setup steam on that comp and set it to offline mode? That way you could play l4d and they could play peggle, which I am assuming is not online.

install it and open it once, install peggle and then set it to always start in offline mode. then they can start it anytime, no problems.

my one beef with steam is with this though. i can understand not being able to play the same game on two computers at the same time, but why should it stop me from playing two different games at the same time.

sharing account with people = loss of profit from those other people

Likely from the Orange Box. If so, it's just about a demo with Half Life art.

This is why I have started creating separate accounts for all the games I decide to purchase which require Steam.
That way such a problem is unlikely to arise.

Of course, that leads to other problems, like being unable to download game A on account A while playing game B on account B, since you can only log into Steam once on a single computer.

Steam is basically a giant pile of crap which is more restrictive than most other forms of DRM unless you are a single user who uses a single computer at any one time.

Aren't most people single users? As for a single pc why would that come in? I own a certain steam account, I can use it anytime I want on any PC I want so there is no problem there. The only issue comes in when someone else wants to use my account or a game I purchased for whatever reason. Unless your someone who resells games or likes to give/loan them to others to try (I have done this in the past) then steam works great.

Personally even with this downside I feel the upside (access to your game anywhere, anytime) makes it worth the problem. For instance I have three steam accounts each with the main games I play multiplayer like UT3, L4D, TF2, and CS:S. At lans I sign into these accounts from other pc's so people can get in and play and it works great. That alone is an awesome aspect of steam that I am very happy to support.

As for the OP it does sound like offline mode is the best option. In the past I made a mistake where I purchased a game for the wrong account and valve was able to change it for me. They did say they normally don't do this and would not do it again for me but who knows, everyone might get the first one free, never hurts to ask.
