*mutters obsenities*

Can't get Winamp to stop skipping! It's driving me mad!! Mad I tell you! I got buffer at max, cache the entire song on loadup, max CPU priority, and it still skips! AhhhahHH!! BTW using 2.65 w/ W2K, heard 2.72 isn't all that great. Dang, I really need to go to sleep.

One word...SONIQUE!!

I used WinAmp while Sonique had their EQ problems and really enjoyed it until I tried running .vis files and ran into all kinds of problems. The things buggier than Grandma's cabinets!!

P3 700->980, 256MB PC133 CL2, CUSL2, SB Live Value, GF2 32MB, Quantum 18GB 7.2K & 15GB 5.4K

I'm pretty sure my system is up to spec. Not sure if it's because my hard drives are getting full or not, wouldn't seem to matter since I pre-cache my songs.

Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that a P3-700 w/ 265MB and an SB Live! is enough system to run winamp.

<me thinks you have a different problem than not fast enough hw>

I'm wondering if it's OS related or not, seems like W2K dumps everything into IRQ 9 and I heard Winamp has issues with video and audio fighting for bus. Anyone have input about this or is there something else I overlooked? Really should be going to sleep soon, start work at 6.

2.72 is working for me, i can never really tell the difference between versions anyway,,, is the skipping just 1 mp3 file, or all, if it's one, maybe it's just the file is badly encoded, otherwise... i dunno,... = P

My friend has the same problem. Only happened after he upgraded to Win2k from Win98. Still trying to figure out how to fix it :(

Sonique sucks. It has the worst GUI I've ever seen. Can't believe Winamp 3 is going the same route.. :disgust:

Winamp 2.71 on Win 2K here and all's well. I have a copy of Winamp 1.69 somewhere if you want to see if an older version of Winamp will run on your system without skipping I also have a couple other versions of Winamp between 1.69 and 2.71. I you want them PM me, I should be able to get back to you tonight.

HEY I HAD THAT PROBLEM TOO!!

Poked around a bit, seems to be a directx/win2k glitch, happens at wierd times, espicially when browsing the forums right??? In the out put plugin section, set it to wave out, it'll stop the error for good, but I haven't tried directx 8 so maybe that'll fix it?

I don't think defrag would help. I precache everything to memory, plus I've tried playing off drives that are less than 3% fragged. I've gone back to 2.65, seems a little better. Actually found a webpage that has all the versions of winamp, called winampheaven.com or something like that. From what I've read it's a pretty common problem. Tried switching PS2 mouse over to USB, didn't help all that much. Disabled AGP4x, still no go. Even Sonique skips so I don't think it's the decoder. And I love W2k too much to go back to 98. Any other ideas?

Dang, I'm running DX8. Doesn't matter if I use waveout or directsound, still skips. Pretty well documented prob with Winamp and W2K, haven't seen very good fixes though.

hmm, when I switched to wave, it went away, maybe you've found another bug I havn't yet, But right now my win2k partition has decided to not want to boot any more, so it's not being used at home.
