WHEN THE FSCK IS PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY GOING TO MAKE A COMEBACK?!!!?!?

The story

At a December hearing, authorities said Devin Thompson, when he was apprehended, told officers, "Life is a video game. You've got to die sometime."

Walmart will prevail (barely, since apparently they sold an M-rated game to a minor), SCEA will FREAKING DESTROY, Take Two will fair excellently as they have in past cases, Gamestop may be the only one that has to pay anything.

Oh, and you can get through both GTA3 and Vice City without killing a single cop if I'm not mistaken. All Take Two has to do is prove that the kid is a sick fvck for killing the cops without their instruction.

Blame it on the video game companies's always better than blame it on the thousands of parents who are too stupid and irresponsible to have children in the first place.

Yeah, the thing that really pisses me off about this and all the other BS lawsuits is that it doesn't SOLVE anything.

The game companies will fight the lawsuit and probably (rightfully) win, but the cycle continues. It sure as fsck isn't going to bring back the cops that were killed, nor does it address the issue that this kid obviously is seriously fscked in the head.

The only one who's going to profit from this is the fscking ambulance chaser (who I'm told has made a career out of these kinds of lawsuits) prosecuting the companies on behalf of the victim's families.

All this amounts to is another episode of "Pass The Buck". God forbid that we should actually have this kid tested by an impartial mental health practitioner and prove that he's a fscking psycho who would have snapped eventually, video game or no video game.

They're not going to win this case just like they didn't win the IDSA v. St.Louis case. There is simply not enough pyschological data to support their claims. Dr. Craig Anderson is just about the only guy out there doing research, and a lot of his methods are somewhat dubious and he is considered one of the best. He is the expert who testifed at the Senate hearing in 2000 on violent media. His research, on violent video games, did not even begin until after Columbine.

-Acclaim was sued for the same thing after Columbine. They won, and so has every video game publisher since. Until there is something concrete on the part of psychological evidence these cases will keep popping up and losing.
