what mobo do you have? I ask simply because if it doesn't support penryn quads now then you could be in for a long wait...

why don't you just trade it even up to me for my e6750? no? what about my opteron 180, that's the 2nd fastest chip EVER MADE for skt 939...😉

There's nothing wrong with AS Rock. AFAIK Asus makes them and they're used in Dell computers.

Read the AT article I linked to on the 650i board. It looks great to me!

they were started by asus and sold off. and no they are NOT used in dell's. those are either low end foxconn or intel boards. and the problem with that, and all reviews is it's a first / short impression. my long term impression of asrock is horrible down the raod.

I'm using an XFX 680i LT. same thing as the evga (made by evga, bios is interchangable with evga). which is why I'm dumbfounded that asrock can do it and evga hasn't been able to / unwilling to get it working

From what I'm reading, NV royally pissed off intel, so they bugged the wolfdale intentionally so that there is no way to make it work on 680i short of re-engineering the motherboard.

Aparently intel wants SLI on their chipsets to compete with AMD, plus they're pouring tons of cash into Larabee, so they've declared NV an enemy.

With Intel, everyone is the enemy, including the consumer 😉

and WTF is that supposed to mean?

some of us WORK for a living. I spent a decent amount of time in corporate IT, and HATED it. I loved the hands on fixing problems, selling solutions, and helping people. I hate sitting behind a desk. so what if my MCSE, CCNA, and CNE are going to waste in many ways. I'm a close friend of my GM, I'm next in line to move up the food chain for a management spot (and barring things stay the way they are it may happen in the next few weeks). I'm the only person in the store with free reign of all departments including sales and LP who doesn't already have a manager title.

I also don't throw away my $$$ on stuff. have 2 car payments, a house, a cottage and a boat to deal with. I could have shelled out $1k+ on a cpu like you did, but I don't feel it is something I need to do.

I don't see anything in Yoxxy's post that isn't factually true. You do work at microcenter, or so you claimed, and you do need bonuses, don't we all. And the salary ranking scale given by Yoxxy pretty much reflects every national salary survey I ever laid eyes on. So...

But your response is kinda sad, like little man's complex or something. I'm poor cuz I wants to be that way, so shut it yo!

I just don't care for bashing the work. there ARE those of us in the field that work like it's fast food. The potential to earn is upto the person. we have 2 six figure a year salesmen in system sales that work in the same building. they rank #1 and 3 in chain. and they EARN it.

besides the fact that anyone with any real certs (no A+ isn't one anymore) in michigan are being replaced with lower cost, no experience, right out of college, wanna-be network admin / engineers. and frankly anyone who hasn't adapted and moved on is a fool in this state. and when the job truely is easy, upper management is seeing it as cheaper to replace the qualified higher paid people with chimps... and to me it just isn't worth that kind of aggrivation. but at least now I can go to work knowing that my boss has my back and has nothing more planned for me than moving up (not shoved out the door for knowing too much). and I dictate my earnings based on hard work instead of what the lowest bidder is willing to work for.

Don't you think this is really getting off-topic ???

Let get back to the options....

many hedge fund mgrs and investment bankers are soon going to entry level clerks at microcenter... and really good salespeople usually trump all positions other than ceo.

option 3: buy a 750/80/90i mobo.
option 4: buy an intel-based mobo and either shoot for xfire or at least give up on sli.

I want your boss too. Except... as my boss. Not like, want him.

Sell the CPU, get a bigger graphics card!

lol, if I didn't read the whole story I'd think getting a Q6600 instead of Q9xxx is a let down not the other way around!!

1.) I simply listed the amount of money you make based on numerous scales.
2.) Microcenter is not work. You stock computer parts and sell them to people. The real work is done with the mind. You in fact seem to have quit a more challenging job and that is why you work at a computer retail shop.
3.) If you really have even one of those certifications and you work at Microcenter every other one of your points is moot. Your opportunity cost is huge switching to Microcenter. Starting Salary for Cisco NA is $60k and you can help a lot more people than at Microcenter. CNE and MSCE would put you in the $120-$175k range.
4..) I didn't pay for that CPU 🙂, nor any of the cpu's I have.

ASRock (Asus) 680i or any 780i are your only choice.

1: welcome to michigan. where "saving jobs" means cutting corners and taking on under / non qualified staff. why pay someone twice as much who really knows vs paying someone the minimum to figure it out as they go? that's what's going on here. a $60k+ job elsewhere is only worth $30k here IF you're lucky. Greed killed many high end jobs in michigan.

2: I hate the office. I hate seeing the same people come to me day after day for the same stupid stuff. too many years of it. sorry but I enjoy work now, I hated the corporate IT world way too much. I work in a bar 4 nights a week too. the pay sucks but I enjoy the hell out of it. just like durring the summer working 2 days a week on a charter fishing boat. I enjoy it and happens that I make some $$$ while doing it. makes my life a lot easier. I may have taken a pay cut and have to "work" a lot more. but at least I don't come home with the urge to tear someones head off and use thier skull as an ash tray.

I don't blame you. I quit a 6 figure job 3 wks ago b/c my boss was a prick. There is a very real chance that I'll never make that much money again, but I wouldn't go back for twice the money.

Well, ok, maybe for twice the money...
