Arrow keys vs WSAD keys

So what is it? I read somone in another thread mention a game called shogo and that it was antique "they default keys were arrows wtf?" Got me thinking... How many people actually use the crappy WSAD way? Does everyone do this? Is that why my games all come defaulted to that bs?

Arrow keys forever! 😛 What do you use?

Ive updated the original poll with a few new options.

Also added the left/right handed poll. I dont see how its relevant but well ya never know there might be some kinda pattern here. Im betting all the WSAD people are damn lefties :frown:

UPDATE: Ok, this WSAD superiority crap is getting out of hand. This theory that WSAD is awsome and arrow keys are crap needs to be trashed.

Now, i think we need some kind of proof here. I suggest we have some kinda game of somthing to settle this. A 5v5 in somthing, preferably a game that takes a while and dosent end after 3 minutes like CSS. But whatever, ill put up a poll with the games i got that other people here are likely to have and we can vote on it.

UPDATE2: Ok well the poll shows all 3 games should be used, ill bet it was mostly WSAD people who voted for CSS :roll:

Who has all these games and is an arrow keyer?

Who has all these games and is one of the unfortunate WSAD people?

Need 5 from each category. PM me if you're eligible and we can sort out 5v5's in each of the games. Also if you know anything about hosting a CSS/HLDM/BF2 game that would help as ive never done that before.

i actually prefer the wsad way, because of how may keys are bunched around it and easily assignable for multiple things and you dont have to reach for anything.

WASD is faster because in many games, the other keys surrounding it are also used. How else can you easily lean/strafe/skill select in games if you are using the arrow keys?

The even easier method is to get a seperate keypad specifically designed for gaming, with the keys closer together for quicker selection.

Strafe = left/right arrows
Lean = never use it, but if needed side left and side right mouse buttons
Skill select/weapon select = middle mouse wheel
end = reload
pgdn = flashlight
delete = grenade
rshift = jump
rctrl = crouch
num0 = sprint
enter = use

Thats how ive always got it set up. I still kick ass in any FPS's bar battlefield 2 which is more random than others.

Arrows are fine for everything I play.

Movement: Arrows
Jump: Num 0
Crouch: Right Ctrl
Sprint/Walk: Shift
Use: Enter
Reload: '
Change Ammo: ;
Flashlight: Num 1
Nightvision goggles/binoculars/etc: Num 4

What the hell? Is that in Special Forces? I don't recall a flashlight!

I've always thought it was called WASD 😉 and yeah I use them

Me too.
WASD is were it's at 😛

None of the keys around the arrow keys are easily accessible with the same hand in a split second.

Could be Doom 3.

I use 2468 on the numpad in everything and just move my keyboard to the side whenever I want to play a game. They are aligned correctly unlike WASD, but also have a lot of extra keys nearby unlike the arrow keys. I typically use 0 for jumping, . for reloading and enter for crouching, which still leaves several keys for other things.

Move Forward - Right Mouse Button
Fire - Left Mouse button
W - Jump
A/D - Strafe
S - backwards
X - Squat

My basic setup...

WASD is faster for me simply because 1.) its more comfortable as there is more space between your keyboard hand and your mouse hand and 2.) it's closer to a lot more keys than the arrows, so you can do other things faster, and 3.) its been the default setup on about 99% of the shooters I've played; but it's all up to what you're used to.

I guess when you type it goes WASD, left to right, top to bottom.

CP5670:

Wow, never heard of that one.

WASD. I used to use ESDF and couldn't get use to WASD. After a long gaming hiatus, I've gotten good at using WASD.

I use WASD because so many extra keys are right next to it too. But I also like to map a few of the others such as Prone and Crouch to the extra buttons on my mouse.

I just mention BF2 because its the FPS im the worst at. Yea it dosent have a flashlight. That key setups just for every FPS i play, if theres no flashlight then pgdn dosent get used 😛
