I hate these people that say almost no one cheats and that "you just suck".

Blizzard recently banned something like 10,000 accounts in WarcraftIII for using hacks. Everyone that was banned had hack programs (like a map hack) that were detected running by the bnet servers. After the bannings, the banned players' records showed up as blank (no games played). I went and looked at my game history list on battle.net, and I had played against AT LEAST 30 hackers in 100 or so games. I won most of them though

Granted I'm not the best at FPS, although I am better than your average player, but from what you're describing, it does sound like they are cheaters.

I played the xbox version a lot and it doesn't seem likely 2-3 shots should be able to kill you from a looooong distance away. When I played, if the person had full health/shields and was out in the open, I would still have to empty most of my clip (pistol zoomed) on that person before they died.

I might just not be aiming well, but I'm pretty sure it's not normal to kill someone full health/shields from a far distance in 2-3 shots w/ pistol.

Um, 2-3 pistol head shots kills you. Jeez.....

Yeah I remember in the X-Box version I could get a headshot from halfway across the map if both me and the guy were moving..... but that was only when I had been playing for 7 hours non-stop, and it took me about 8 shots just to get the one head shot, and then another 15 shots to get the kill.

You got cheated....

3 shots are required to kill someone with a pistol assuming they have full health and full sheilds. I've shot someone at point blank range before because I was curious and you can't kill someone with any less than 3.

Being in AT forums, I really doubt my initial experience with online gaming applies, but, when you're using a mouse and 4 or 5 keys, and you're playing with someone who has a much better graphics card, and a top of the line joystick, you're gonna get your butt whupped. The joystick beats the mouse any day. (in my opinion), especially when you're good with the joystick and it has a POV button (moves the head), rotation, as well as x and y components of movement.. and all sorts of other buttons, controls...

I just don't know what to think about this issue. I play UT2k3 (which I know most people hate) and there is a clan that's notorious for using aimbots. Because of this, I'm sure plenty of people just think aimbots are rampant in the game.

Now I play on a few servers where the level of skill is extraordinarily high. I'm talking about the best players of a particular gametype. I can usually hold my own and I will occasionally do well and occasionally suck it up. Sometimes when I switch to another game type and find a random server, I'll find myself getting pwned mercilessly and sometimes I do the pwning.

I was accused of cheating just this week by 2 clanners on thier own Team Deathmatch server. How could I get 120 kills when the best anyone else got was around 60? Hax out the ax was the answer from one of the clanners. But if these noobs don't ever leave thier own little world, before long they are going to think that they are much better than they really are. Here's a hint. Don't run in straight lines and don't stand still to try to shoot me. I promise it will end badly for you.

There are plenty of people who just absolutely hand me my ass and I've spent along time playing and trying to improve my game. So, naturally it's insulting when someone tells you that you have no skill but are just cheating.

I know cheating happens, but I think far too often people accept it as the reason they are getting beat rather than face the alternative, which is that they guy beating you just outclasses you.

Oh yah, the aimbots were terrible in UT. People would be flying past me and shooting backwards getting headshots in mid-air. That's why I had to stop playing.

Maybe this is because I'm a UT player, but would someone please tell me why Halo was designed like this? It just doesn't seem rational for creating a varied gameplay experience.

It is a varied experience. The pistols aren't always in multiplayer unless the person picks generic weapons, or if the weapon is a regular weapon you start off with on that map. (Hang 'Em) Or if you just pickup the pistol from somewhere.

If everyone starts off with pistols then everybody is on even ground (not including skill level) - everyone has just as fair a shot as killing everybody else. However, skill skews that in favor of the more advanced "Elites". Just like a newbie would get owned in UT by an "Elite", same goes with Halo.

I think everyone is making out the pistol to be this bad ass, end all weapon. It's not. The pistol has it's uses, and is only really effective in moderate-long range on maps like Hang' Em, Wizard, and in CTF on Damnation and Blood Gulch (to provide cover for the flag runners). Short range - you would get dominated by a single shotgun blast, a rocket, (obviously) or even the assault/plasma rifle, especially since you get "frozen" by the plasma. Pretty much every weapon in Halo has it's particular use, (exception: plasma pistol, which is pretty useless unless you're doing team slayer) it's just that people like the pistol so much they tend to use it more often than anything else in certain maps.

EDIT: in relation to the last paragraph, with regards to everyone making the pistol to be this unfair weapon: it's just people who aren't good at the game/good with that particular weapon whining and crying about it. I played Halo the other night with my cousins in TN - we played this one clan with a guy named "pistolfagsaregay". He was decent when you didn't start out with pistols - I'd go as far as to say about even skill level with me - but when we played a pistol map, he got DOMINATED. Why? Because he's such a whiny baby about getting owned by people with pistols. He doesn't understand how the "3 shot" works, and just thinks it's cheating/lame that it's in there. He's decent enough in skill that he should be proficient with the pistol. It's his fault and the people complaining that they're not good with the pistol, not some unfair balance the pistol brings to the game.

My .02

I think all the cheaters (I never call them hax0r), in any game, should be shot, and bury in a hole somewhere between cali and vegas. There are exceptional players in any game, but cheating has becoming a plague in any game you play. Be it RTS, first person shooter or any thing, there will be losers that have to cheat, because they don't possess the skills to play properly. I know of people that would not ever play any game without their cheats, what is the fcuking point of playing?

I've played CS long enough to spot a cheater from "accross the map", granted some of you do have the hand eye coordination to be a prodigy at CS, but you're only human. Some of the shiets they do are humanly impossible. If I suspect some one of cheating, I can usually catch the bastage in 5 rounds of watching. Some of them even develope a "skill" to hide their cheat very well, but they do slip up.

What was the point of this rant? Play with your own skills, if you're not good at something, try harder, not cheat. Some of you even lie to yourself about not cheating... damn. How is it that you can feel good about your score/stat when YOU know that you didn't earn it? (cheating is all about stat whoring).

Just gotta find the right servers with the right administrators who ban cheaters and keep the server clean.

ARRGH, this game is such a source of frustration and yet i play it..

tonight.. i emptied 2 full clips into a guy driving a tank.. he had no overshield or anything.. all but 2 shots hit.. and he didnt die..

in another level I was standing on a ridge shooting at a guy across the map with my sniper rifle.. its the ice level-and a tank on the ground shoots up at me.. the round hits the ridge.. and i am nowhere near the edge.. i am way back.. and i died.. there is no freaking way that even exploded near me at all...

its the lag and player prediction that suck the most.. if my game says i hit someone, i dont really think it is truthful 100% of the time, since there is no way i can dump an entire 2 clips into a guy with a pistol and have him not die..

Theres a bunch of other bullshit too.. like when you are driving those scooters and are chasing a guy across the map and you hear those blinks which mean you hit someone.. you know.. the are going off for like 10 full seconds and the guy still has shields and everything.. then you overshoot him a bit and he turns and fires 1 ONE FREAKING SHOTGUN BLAST into you and its a good distance away and it kills instantly.. after you have been pouring plasma shots into this guy for quite awhile..
Once again, he had no overshields or so he says
ARRGH.. This game is going to drive me to drinking..

Not in FPSes. With a mouse you can move the mouse at many different speeds, for immediate 360 degree turns or for tiny precision modifications. With a joystick you are much more limited in your movement, which is also why you don't want a gamepad vs mouse/keyboard.

You can be killed by three shots from a pistol in Halo, you can also withstand 300 hits from a pistol and suffer no loss of health at all if you play it properly(against someone who doesn't get how the game 'works' anyway). I am a big fan of the pistol, but in certain situations it is a lousy weapon. If you are playing against someone who is good with duck and cover tactics, the pistol becomes inferior to the Needler, RocketLauncher, Shotgun or any grenade. If you have some idiot who charges you from a distance with any of those same weapons and you have a pistol, they are toast. You try playing Halo as if it were UT or Q3 you are going to get your @ss handed to you, quickly. Because you deal with both tactical and straight DM style players, add in the variety of weapons the game has you end up with some extremely varried gameplay.

For the most part, if you hear someone complaining about something being too powerful in Halo, it is because it counteracts what they do best. If you keep getting fragged by the same player the same way, completely change your tactics and odds are you will fair much better.

I hear what you're saying. The more I play the more I realize that what you said is true. Nonetheless, the main problem I have in Halo MP is that more than half the time I have no idea exactly what it was I was killed by. I will spawn and be dead within 2 seconds and it doesn't let you look around to see what happened.

Umm...hmm...joysticks? NO, they suck for FPS games - yes, there are a ton of good Halo Xbox players with their Xbox joysticks, but it doesn't compare to playing the game with a keyboard/mouse, period.

I have yet to read about any specific cheats, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are out there for Halo.
