Arrgh! New wireless setup shows connected to router but...

Queasy

I am not showing any of the other PCs on my network and I am unable to pull anything off of the internet.

I just bought a Dell Inspirion 1100 notebook with XP Home installed. I bought a Netgear WGR614 wireless router and a WG511 wireless PC card for the notebook. I have two self-built PCs connected via ethernet to the router. Both PCs connect fine and are able to get to the internet, share files, print etc. It is just the notebook when I try to connect to the network wirelessly that I am having a problem. This is despite the fact that the network status on the notebook shows that I am connected and that I am receiving an excellent connection. When I connect the notebook to the router via ethernet cable, it works fine. It is only when I try to connect wirelessly that I am having problems.

I have the SSIDs on the router and the notebook set the same. I have the channels set the same. I have both set to 'g' only mode (though I tried 'b and g' as well). I am not picking up any other wirless networks and there is no 2.5Ghz device in the house other than the router.

I'm trying here for any ideas. I've sent an email to Netgear support as well but after receiving the standard reply of things to check for, I haven't heard anything from them.

Edit: Forgot to say that when I type in the address to my router that I am not getting anything either. All security is turned off (tried with everything turned on as well).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

This happens from time to time (about once a month) with my notebook. I reset the router, and everything works OK again.

That would be fine if it ever worked from the beginning....I haven't gotten my wireless setup to work yet.

Ok, got it working now. There was a third SSID setting in the wireless card configuration utility that needed to be changed too. Apparently, just changing the SSID in the Windows settings was not enough...

hehee... that is because MS decided they wanted you to use their wireless utility when all the wireless card manufacturers already had thier own software to do the same thing. If you load the software that comes with your wireless card, you will need to use their software to do the configurations and not MS "network settings".
