Arrgh, Help! I can't get my oil cap off!

Last time I had my jeeps oil changed I took it to one of those quicky places.. Now I am trying to change it myself and I can't get the freeking oil cap off. It will sit there and twist and twist and make clicking noises like you have screwed your gas cap on too tight.. Any advice? And yes I am turning the right way. 🙂

Maybe they put the bolt on misaligned? Bring your reciept and take it to the place. Have them tell you how to get it off, or have them loosen it for you.

the right way is counter-clockwise, correct?

I dunno, does jeep use child safety oil caps or something, do you have to push down while you turn?

If its plastic, get a hacksaw and saw it off. Then go buy a replacement.

Wouldn't shavings fall down in with the oil?

her209, STFU if you don't know anything.

The stuck oil cap is common on Jeep Cherokees. I had one stuck one time but as soon as it cooled down it came right off.

There are some that will just NOT come off, cool hot or anywhere in between. Plan on buying a new oil cap. You can get them at the dealer for about $5 I believe. Autozone and places like that will carry the stant brand which will work and doesn't have the ratchett.

If it just won't come off, pry off the top part and then use channel locks to turn the part that is left.

ok, let it cool down, still did it.. So I pryed the top off and I could see the plastic catches were hosed.. So I was able to twist it out.. Now I am leaving to go get another one.. 🙂
