If Democrats don't start flexing their Congressional muscle immediately I will not be voting at all in 2020 federal elections. If they refuse to uphold the Constitution then nothing else matters. Hell I might even vote for Trump because I'd like to hit rock bottom as fast as possible.

I’m all for it. Congress has been handing power over to the President for 20+ years. Yes that includes a Democrat President so please no #bothsides bullshit. Congress has the right & duty to investigate and ask questions. They should do it.

Unfortunately, my dog has retired from politics because she recognizes her age might be problematic, but she's grooming her nephew to step up in a few years.

In any case, this power exists and should be used on the IRS now.

I’ll be honest, I so want to see a video of the Sergeant at Arms marching up to Muncin (dude with the hot wife in treasury), bang on the door, go inside then leave escorting the dude with the hot wife to Congress.

Simply put, they absolutely have to threaten arrests. This is an administration that will do anything to avoid holding people accountable, and arrests may be necessary to get to the truth.

I agree, but what they absolutely cannot do is fail to follow through if the parties compelled to obey refuse. Crossing that red line and backing off is utter failure.

I agree. Congress needs to show no mercy against those who think they are above the law. Threaten and then arrest all those who fail to appear.

As a few Dems in Congress have been heard to mention, what they're afraid of is the upcoming elections and the negative blowback they might get from being seen as *overly aggressive* and *over reaching* with their powers.

Of course, the Repubs WILL play this card because it's all to their advantage to do so. Hell they're already doing it now and of course it will play well with their base come time to vote simply because a grain of rice will look like a feast to a victim of starvation.

But count me in as a go for immediate and clever use of oversight by the Dems.

This is what looks to be Pelosi's finest hour. If she can pull these investigations off without looking to be the Gestapo reincarnated then it will be a blessing for the nation as a whole because quite obviously, there's a whole lot of malfeasance and skulduggery that the Trump admin. needs to be held accountable for.

I agree. I voted this past November for the first time in a very long time. I did this for a reason. I want to see action against those that think they are above the law. I know there are others like us. If the Dems just sit around talking until 2020 they will cause people to stay home like they did in 2016.

Playing well to the repug base is irrelevant. Their base is in a permanent tizzy and will show up to vote for him no matter what. It's how it plays among independents and swing voters that matters. I think on balance showing strength is going to play best with most of those voters.

Some good news! DOJ is compromised, however, so it's not a given they'll prosecute.

Adam Schiff: "There is very strong evidence that [Erik Prince] willingly misled the committee and made false statements to the committee and later today we'll be making a criminal referral to the Justice Department."

They won't threaten arrests unless the big donors give them the nod...

as much as people want to deny that it's very much true for some in the Democratic party.

I'll probably get the predictable shill(s) denying it but D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F.F.

Just in case you're serious, he has nothing to do with what happened today except his meeting with foreigners in the Mueller report. He's also Betsy Devos's brother.

The chances of the Dems being seen as "overly aggressive" by anyone but diehard GOP partisans is slim to nonexistent. For years the Dems have allowed themselves and the country to be pushed around and manhandled by the GOP-showing some spine would be welcomed by and rewarded by the vast majority of voters.

OTOH Burr is a blatant political toady who operates at the beck and call of The Donald. I see no reason to give him publicity. Don't waste hearing time on him-use it for witnesses who matter and who won't glibly lie under oath like he does.

He's the guy who when confronted with lies he made to congress tried to make a defense that the official transcript was wrong.

He's shady as shit, and also Betsy Devos' brother.

His topic needs a whole long thread about it to do it any justice. Includes an infamous Seychelles meeting.

Wow, I just heard Barr is refusing to head to the House tomorrow. The AG didn’t like the questions today in the Senate and something about Lawyers being present in the House.

Send out the summons then send out the Sargent at Arms

Attitudes like this are one reason Trump got elected in the first place, and that he stands a good chance IMO of getting re-elected. No matter how dis-satisfied one is with the Democrats, or with their nominee, priority # 1,#2, #3.......to infinity is getting rid of Trump. The only way for this to happen is to have a high voter turn out and for those sitting on the fence or not happy with the dems for some reason to still vote for the Dem candidate, if it accomplishes nothing but getting rid of Trump. I know I am less liberal than a lot on this forum, but none of the democrats except Biden, and perhaps mayor Pete, are moderate enough to get my vote under normal circumstances, but be assured whoever is nominated, and however distasteful it might be for me to vote for them, I will certainly do it.

If the Dems aren't going to use every tool in their toolbox to hammer Trump and his criminal enterprise until the public can no longer ignore the fact that the GOP are illegally running cover for criminals then we are already lost. Time to pull the plug.
