If movie theaters would install signal blockers or throw people out who talk on cell phones, this wouldn't be an issue.

The former is illegal, the latter is a great idea though.

great, now tapping someone on the arm/shoulder to get their attention will get you in trouble with assault charges.

gotta love the US and where its heading. i await the day where all people are enclosed in a zone of force that prevents any kind of physical contact, having emotions are illegal, all speech is filtered to be politically correct, etc. good times to be had for all.

I say people like that large woman should be shipped to a deserted island. Those type of people piss me off. You get a lot of those kinds around here.

Why did they put "very large" in quotes? Why did they even mention her weight?

Probably cause that's how she was described. In journalism, you put a quotation in quote marks. 😉

Kinda makes you wonder if you're better off punching the large women with cellphones in the movie theaters until they're unconscious. At least that way, you can finish watching your movie and slip out of the theater before they realized who did it.

In California the woman would have been charged with assault and battery. In California touching some is considured to be assault and battery.

The large b!tch probably told the cops that the other woman assaulted her or whatnot. Given that that is all the information the cops had, of course they had to escort her outside.

But it's going to court now. Why couldn't they have dismissed the issue there and then, especially as they had testimony from an off duty cop?

Because what the woman did is considered assault. She touched her not once, but twice in an attempt to shut her up.

If she had done the same thing the "very large" woman did, and told the cinema authorities, this could have been avoided. You can't just keep tapping someone until they comply with you.

Yeah, but that's California. 'Nuff said!!

See? That will teach that woman a good lesson. Maybe next time she'll forgo the touching, and just pull out the can of pepper spray, and teach the fat wench a lesson she won't forget!!!

Dear God. That post is so sad to read.

I find talking on the phone during a movie, then screaming obscenities at someone in public to be a far greater wrong than "tapping for compliance." If you think differently, please die.

That's a regulation the FCC needs to consider modifying. I think theaters should be able to block cell phones since manners seem to be non existent now.

Maybe in America, where unwanted touch is now deemed assault. Captain Obvious would point out that there are other customs and cultures in this world, relating to personal space, proximity, touching, and the like. But in the great US, where someones personal rights to be obnoxious are immutable, heaven forbid one person touch another to get their attention.

In some states touching is also considured battery. Like in california, you can be charged with asault and battery.

This is why I don't see movies in the theatre. Between cell phones, undisciplined children and people who have absolutely no consideration for others -- not to mention the half hour of advertisements that precede the film and the hugely overpriced snacks -- it's really not worth it.

you are pathetic

I still dont get it... what was the charge... since when is asking someone to be quiet under ANY circumstances a crime of any kind?

Something missing here.
