Anyone have any idea what the boomstick edition is? I've got so many different editions of Army of Darkness there's no way I'm buying another unless it has a lot of new stuff.

Nice find, however it appears that the $10 coupon cannot be used on this order. Anyone complete the order and know for sure?
So it really seems to be, Pre-order AoD for 19.99 and get $10 off a future online order?

Yes, that is how these BB preorder deals work. As I quoted above, they send you the $10 digital coupon good towards a future purchase at the website around March 13, 2003. Ive done several deals like this, and havent had any problems.

The general consensus at DVDTalk seems to be that this is the same as the Anchor Bay 2 disc limited edition that's going for big bucks on Ebay.
I'm more of an Evil Dead fan, but for $10 (after GC) -- groovy!

so consensus is that this is the version to buy? I almost bought some other one for about $10 one day but it was bootleg edition and I really had no idea what it meant or even if it was the whole film.

i'd stay away from the bootleg cut, it's got a different ending and no option to view the original. it's definitely a great movie for the guys, but for some reason the ladies don't seem to enjoy it at all

Hmmm.... I wonder if it contains the original, or theatrical ending?

My copy of AOD recently died(no scratches, just looks like the surface is failing)....AchorBay Entertainment (maker of my DVD) is not responding to my phone calls or emails asking for a replacement.

This is very tempting....great movie... would definitly get it for $10....but $20 with $10 credit is annoying. Why? Because BB is betting you'll spend more than $10 on next purchase, and it's likely the $10 "credit" will not worth with coupons or other offers so beware.

Good Luck to all!

A word of warning about bestbuy.com digital certificates:

1) You only have a week or so to use it
2) If you don't receive it via e-mail, don't expect any satisfaction from "Customer Care".

The second time I took advantage of one of these deals they stiffed me for $5. I never got the e-mail. I'd like to think my future business would have been worth more the them, but I guess it wasn't.

The last time I pre-ordered a DVD from BB, they never charged my credit card. It just so happened to be the Evil Dead Book of the Dead.

Must... resist... temptation...

I have the AOD LE 2-disk (among other versions). I managed to resist buying the bootleg Director's Cut, since it was part of the 2-disk set. I guess I can resist this too, I hope.

But if you don't have it, I reocmmend this. I liked the alternate ending and the unused intro. But of course, the theatrical version is a kick.

Hail to the King, Baby!

I hope this version has the good version of the "good ash vs bad ash"

Why? What version?
There's a scene where Bad Ash is saying something like, "goody goody to shoes, you're goody goody t--......" at that point Good Ash puts the shotgun to Bad Ash's face and says "Good.....Bad.....I'm the guy with a gun". The lame version, IMHO, is when Good Ash puts the shotgun to Bad Ash's mouth and says somehting like, "I'm not that good"

Soooooo Lame......I know it's only a few seconds, but imagine Arnold Schwartzeneggar saying "I'll stop by later" in a friendly voice instead of "I'll be back" in a cold stone voice.

BTW, the ONLY reason I know this is because recently my original AOD died and I discovered all the versions of AOD out there and did some reading about the differences......

Cheers :D

Army of Darkness DVD list *new*

The Evil Dead series is great! You?ve got to see them all. Sooo many good quotes.

Most fans are frustrated by the multiple (confusing) releases. There are a dozen or so versions of AoD if you count the foreign releases. (Supposedly the rights have been held by a few companies and each has printed a couple of versions.) I tried to figure out which DVD was the best option for each of the 3 movies (Evil Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, & Army of Darkness). I once found a fanboy site that did a fair job of listing the different versions, but will have to link that up tonight. I'll probably get this 2 disc Boomstick edition because it's expected to be similar to the Limited Edition (30,000 copies each numbered) set, but I am waiting for details on what exactly this set will contain. I wish they would just release a single definitive box set.

After doing hours of research on which copy to buy I recommend/have:
- The Evil Dead (The Book of the Dead Limited Edition), ($45 for great cover, but nearly same as $13 Elite version)
- Evil Dead - Special Edition, (Elite release, has full original 1.33:1 ratio)
- Evil Dead II - Dead by Dawn (Special Edition), (Anchor Bay release, has widescreen anamorphic 1.85:1 ratio)
- Army of Darkness - Boomstick Edition

FYI - new game for PS2 and XBox, Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick (hope it's better than the PC version)

Ive done these deals several times, and only had a problem once, which was fixed after a couple of emails. The digital coupons Ive gotten usually had expiration dates of about 3 weeks or so after recieving them. DVDs are pretty much the only things I buy at BB so these work great for me, especially combined with free shipping promotions.
