Sounds like deep thinking, huh?
Maybe that is an old saying in Texas..Ahahaha

it is... but you have to remember how much beer we drink...

Not to mention cocaine, that Bush doesn't want to talk about. ;)

My god, the guy was nearly outsmarted by snack food, and we liberals are supposed to be the non-deep thinkers? :p

You know, it's funny you mention that, i have that mp3 on a folder in this ftp i have access to. Give me an ftp addy and i'll upload it for you. It's both hillarious and quite sad really. Bush shouldn't be allowed to speak without a teleprompter (or whatever you call it).

Anybody read Dick Armey's comments about Liberals.

He said conservatives have a deeper intellect and "occupations of the brain" like engineering, science and economics.

He said liberals work in "occupations of the heart," which he said were those in the arts.

"Liberals are in my estimation just not bright people. They don't think deeply; they don't comprehend; they don't understand. ... They have a narrow educational base, as opposed to the hard scientists," Armey said.

Armey said. "I have not been impressed with the intellect of the left since I was a freshman in college."

Talk about hitting the nail on the head!!!

Geez. See, there's no reason for the Liberals and Conservatives here on this board to flame each other. Just let the politicians on both sides shoot themselves in the foot.

it's that very focus on practicality that makes conservatives miss the big picture, and cause most of the problems in the world

He's confusing politics and careers again...what an intelligent guy.

Political affiliation has nothing to do with what field you study in. Any moron can figure that out. Incidentally, as an economics major, he didn't get a Bachelor's degree in the SCIENCES. He got a B.A.

Academia in general is dominated by left-wingers.

But when do you find a conservative at an Ivy League school, he's usually a member of the Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Business Administration, or Engineering department.

The chances of a finding a conservative who teaches English is almost 0.

Conservatives in the women's studies department? Homosexual studies department? Black studies department? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Outside of the academy, if you took a poll of conservatives and liberals and asked them what they majored in at college, I think the conservatives would overwhelmingly be folks who majored in finance, hard sciences, etc. and liberals would be people who majored in the arts.

At the same time, I've heard statistics that show the more educated someone is, the more likely he is to be a Democrat.

If you take a poll of scientists, then majority of people would be liberals. Your poll is not related to what dick said.

I'd have to say this this guy is partially right, at least in one instance.
Engineering majors seem to be conservative. Why is this you ask? Because they don't know a damn thing about politics! They know math, maybe some physics.
On the other hand, history, anthro, history, etc majors tend to be liberal. Why is this? Because they know history! They know that Hitler, the KKK, and Jim Crow are all conservative and that our civil rights heros and even Jesus were liberal!

Science majors and art majors around here seem to be a little more liberal than conservative.

Note that this is just my personal opinion.. even I don't accept it as fact.
The stupidity of this guy's statement is overwhelming.
However, assuming we are correct, who is better equipped to make political decisions? The engineer or the historian? This is why everyone needs to have a strong liberal education, but unfortunately, college in America is seen as job training.

Science majors and art majors don't seem to have any significant leaning.

Interesting... what about economics majors? :p

Economics is a liberal art, but alot of economics majors want to be "businessmen" so they would be both liberal and conservative probably!

That's not necessarily true. People who have spent more time in your average college tend to be more liberal, yes. However it's been very well established that the faculty of universities are overwhelmingly liberal. This means that they are going to teach the students to be liberal. And the longer the students stay in an environment controlled by liberals, the more liberal the students will become. If I were to do a study using only graduates from Hillsdale College I'd conclude that more education lead to higher instances of conservatism. If I used Berkeley, I'd come up with a different conclusion.

The education itself does not lead to liberalism, the institution known as college, however, does lead to liberalism in general because of the amazing leftist slant among the professors now, who are largely children of the 1960's who didn't find it necessary to stand up and fight for their country.

Just like a conservative to value "fighting for one's country" over ethics and morals. Also just like a conservative to think the only issue in the 60s was the Vietnam War.

And you're wrong. Faculty doesn't teach students to be liberal. No one can be taught to be liberal or conservatives. It's an individual conclusion. A conservative student will just get pissed at the professor for being liberal.

College students are liberal because of knowledge about the world around them.

College professors tend to be left-wing, I believe, due to the economic realities of being a professor. These guys spend 6+ years in graduate school getting their PhD's. Then they get out and make between $70K-$80K as professors.

Compare that to someone who goes to law school or medical school, they'll be making around $200K. Someone who gets an MBA will likely be making even more.

Lawyers are unusual among professionals in that they prefer Democrats. But this is due to the fact that Democrats write most of the bogus legislation which forms the basis for the lawsuits that the ambulance chasers file. But I digress...

Professors don't have much to lose due to high income taxes because they don't make that much money. But they have everything to gain by wealth redistrubution schemes, because a lot of that money is reallocated back to the academy to be spent at the whim of professors.

College students are liberal because of knowledge about the world around them.

42% of college students voted for Bush vs. 46% for Gore. That's a pretty even split I'd say. People do tend to become conservative as they become older, because they learn more about the issues and the correct stance to take on them.

Or maybe they just become part of the machine and compromise their ideals for the security of being a wage slave.
