Just wondering if anyone has tried the demo yet. It looks awesome. I'm sort of wondering if my rig (1.83 GHz Athlon XP, 1 GB RAM, 9800 Pro) will be able to run the demo so it's at least playable.

Yes I played it last night. I don't care for it. It looks somewhat ok. The gameplay is horrible. You have no second shot with the guns it's like they are all over the place. The helicopter was fun to fly but don't like how you switch positions. The tank was cool, it moves really fast but the explosions and round damage left a lot to be desired.

The game as a whole reminds me of the quality of a game about 5 years ago called Outbreak. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/codenameoutbreak/screenindex.html

Well I tried it out for a bit yesterday. I started a multiplayer game and just played with the AI on one capture the flag map and one cooperative map.

Most of the graphic options are on low and it runs alright so I can't turn them up really. So the game doesn't look very good, especially for one that is out in 2006. ;) Then again, look at the rig in my sig.

Apart from the graphics, to me the game was quite difficult. There is quite a bit of keys involved in the game and I'm not sure if you need to use all of them but quite a bit seem necessary. The enemy AI team killed my guys and I pretty easy... they're good shots and I usually didn't see the guys before they killed me. My AI teammates weren't too bad either, they managed to move up the battlefield, take cover, and call out enemy positions pretty well.

The game is a lot slower than I expected it to be, which is probably why I found it difficult. It's definitely NOT like Battlefield 2 where you can move up and engage the enemy quicker. I guess I was expecting a little more action from the video I saw but it is only a demo and I didn't play for real long (and don't have nearly the computer to get the graphics/framerate in that video).

I'm still going to play it some more before I give a final decision on the game. It's not a bad download at 845 MB, try it out.

It was always going to be a slow game, it's more tactical, and not an arcade run and gun FPS like the BF series.
Also, the performance is atrocious. People with X1900's and the like get poor performance. It's very buggy and needs some serious patching before it'll be really worth purchasing.

I probably will get it since I loved Operation Flashpoint. Controls and movement seem like they are in the original: bad/sluggish. Everything still seems mechanical (soldiers all turning in unison to aim in a direction. Was hoping they'd do something about it. However, the elitism and fanboyism on the official forums is atrocious. Every bug and user friendliness complaint is countered by "but it's more realistic" or "you just suck". With that, doubt they'll ever change anything about it.

I am a huge fan of Operation Flashpoint. I think the game is almost 5 years old and I STILL play it. The mods/addons community is still going strong (check out FFAR 2005 mod). There are new addons to it from the community weekly..and quality too.
I hope Armed Assault continues that path to the next few years.

However, I too played the demo for a while...I ran it at 1024x768 and it did run slow ...the performance was horrible when I used the scope on my weapon or binoculars...I hope they fix that...it could be promising.
