At least there was an effect unlike most of the "heroic" style endings.
With current technology if there is a really large rock coming it's over.

In The Day The Earth Stood Still (the new one) did anyone find it ironic that a helicopter carrying all the top minds was flying over the Hudson River to watch this supposedly extinction level event in front row fashion? 😀

I can't believe I just used helicopter and Hudson River in the same sentence. 😱

I LOVE the first half of this movie. However, I hate all the crying boohoo stuff on the asteroid.

I lump this movie into a set of movies from the mid-late 90s that I never get tired of watching. It's the "this-acting-is-horrid-and-the-direction-could-be-better-but-HELLYEAHGETMEABEERANDSOMEPOPCORN" category. Also including (in no particular order):

-The Rock
-Face/Off
-Con Air
-Broken Arrow
-Bad Boys
-SPEED
-Dante's Peak
-Twister


I guess I just love bad 90s action flicks.
 
I was offshore a few years back and after watching that film one of the roughnecks wrote a letter to NASA stating that if they ever did need to send a drill crew to space, they would be the guys for the job. 🙂

I don't understand the comparison. Clearly Liv Tyler is superior in hotness to whoever the first pic is of.
