ARM CEO claims netbooks to take 90% of PC market

Even if that did end up being true, I'll be in that other 10%.

The only way I could see this happening is if they get to the point where they're so inexpensive ($50 or so) that nearly everyone has one - even 3 year olds. At that price (and assuming the same or better computational power, storage, and battery life, etc. that they have now), I'd get one just as a "beater."

Nothing beats a full-blown notebook. Don't have room for anything big or need good battery life? ULV is the way to go.

netbooks are crap... and you can get nearly the same weight and battery with an ultra low voltage binned CPU from intel (ex: the asus UL series with the intel SU#### processors)

Yeah... no way. I don't care how fast or how cheap netbooks yet, they're not going to overtake laptop sales until the problems with small screen and cramped keyboard are fixed.

That said, I'm sure that someone will figure out how to build a low cost foldable/stretchable keyboard and display get around that problem eventually.

Well, as CursetheSky said, if they were 50 bucks and maintained their current spec's, I'd probably have a couple. Everyone would probably have at least one. They'd overtake notebook sales in sheer volume.

that isn't a problem, it is a feature; They are small by design. It is also a major reason why it will never take over the market. Some people like that; many do not...
Their problem is the utter lack of performance and lack of 64bit capability in the atom compared to other CPUs... a SU model core2 (and soon, core i3) is a much better choice for not much more money. They make 11 inch super light laptops with such CPUs.

Some of the keyboards are really good. The chicklet ones on toshiba laptops are really really nice, especially if you have big hands.

he must be throwing the A4 arm into the mix thus counting iphone 4GS and iPad (and futures) into predicted sales lol.

Are we not getting to the point where every teenager has a netbook as part of their schoolbag? Apparently the schools here in the UK are going that way.

I hope that becomes the case for everyone, but I still don't know about 90% of the market share. That's a lot of market share!

That said, the vast majority of computer users need nothing more than what netbooks are capable of. I always have (and still do) believe that the netbook market has a lot of growing left, but 90% might be pushing it.

90% of the market having one isn't 90% market share... most people have a PC and a cell phone. These "computers" compete with the cell phones.
