Arkham City - PC or CONSOLE?

Not from my experience. Guess it depends if you play tons on a console and thats all you know.

I'm primarily a PC gamer and I find controllers better for certain games. The new Batman games I think are equally good with both control schemes, but there are other games that are definitely better with a controller. Try a racing game or a platformer with a keyboard and mouse. It sucks.

I got Darksiders from Steam a few months ago and it's much worse with a keyboard and mouse.

I find this generally to be the case as well. When the controls are "Focused" around few options (move, attack, interact) such as FPS or racing games, the controller tends to be easier to manipulate than a keyboard. Generally.

However, with games like Oblivion, I found that I didn't have as fine control on minigames like the lock picking when using my Xbox as I did with the PC.

As for Arkham City, since the game is doing most of the "Action" for me and all I am doing is timing my "Y" to coinside with defense and my "X" for attack, I'd bet it is 6 of one and half dozen of the other.

That's quite ballsy of you to use FPS and controller in the same sentence without some negativity. 😉 I see your point about controllers being better in limited function situations since there's no point in having 40-ish buttons at your disposal when you only need 3.

Although, I think you'll always lose on the joystick (on a controller) vs. a mouse when it comes to FPS games. Joysticks work well when the point is to perform an adjustment (i.e. turning to the left in a racing game), because joysticks define your actions based on a value from dead center.

Heh, that actually reminds me of how you would kind of screw yourself over if you messed with your N64 controllers when the console was starting up. 😛 It seemed to set up the center of the joystick upon boot, so if you were moving it, your center would be screwed up. Sometimes my controllers would be flipped over and pushing down on the joystick (and I wouldn't notice). 🙁

Which shows that I don't play FPS very often. 😉

but maybe i meant Platformers instead of FPS? Where does Deadspace fall in the scheme of those two genres?

And that's when you'd unplug the controller and plug it back in. Two second fix.

System requirements for the game are out:

I'm going with console here. Tried AA demo on PC, couldn't get into it at all. Bought it for PS3 and loved it. It's not about system specs with a game like Batman - it's about controls.

Well, seeing as you can easily hook a console controller to your PC...

Everyone keeps saying that, but who really wants to sit in front of a monitor and use a controller? If I'm going to be using a controller I would MUCH rather sit on my couch.

For many of us the couch is the domain of our gf/wife. I would rather play my games on my own screen.

It's a good thing I can use a controller, sit on my couch, use the TV, AND play in 1080p with my computer. Enjoy your inferior experience. 😛

Exactly. It seems a lot of people don't seem to understand you can use your PC anywhere and from any display...

Most people have their PCs and main TV in completely different rooms.

And to do that you have to change primary displays, which fucks up your windows and icons, and you have to change the games resolutions and the settings to get the best performance, then change them all back the next time you want to play on your computer since it's more than likely your tv and monitor are different resolutions.. Then for weeks later some programs just decide that they want to open on my tv instead even though its no longer my primary display.

😕

Now I've only been using my TV from my PC for a few days, but I haven't had any video problems like you're describing. Both screens are 1080p and resolutions were read and applied perfectly. I can decide to duplicate, extend, or pick a single display to use and it works just fine any way you slice it.

My monitor is 1680x1050, my tv is a 42" plasma, so it's 1024x768. I can't run that resolution on it through a pc because everything gets stretched. So I have to force it to display a resolution it doesn't really support just so I can play my games at the proper aspect ratio.

Even if my tv was 1080p, it is still a different resolution than my monitor, and would thus require changing graphics settings depending on which display I'm playing on.
