I see. So if you think it's ok to bump it it is but if somebody else wants to you will whine about it for not meeting your standards of bump-merit. If you could come up with a flow diagram on when it is or isn't ok to thread bump it would make it a lot easier on the rest of us. Why you had to make a second thread in the personal forum about this is beyond me. This one was fine. Stop spamming.
How about this as a guideline - if your primary purpose for bumping is to be a fucking douche bag (like you've been doing) then it's NOT ok.

Hahaha, well you can't fight city hall, and I was done with the necromancy anyway.

A warning/sticky would be nice, it's not like I instantly necroed like 50 threads. I think there was 1 in cpu (the one about prescott), 1 in video (about a 6800), 1 in general hardware (helping a user with problems from 2004), and 2 in OT (one about SARS, the other about Let's invade Iraq). This was inspired by KeithTalent's post-your-first-post thread. It was certainly not intending anyone any harm or insult.

Hey! Don't drag me into this! :D

I think if there is something to add to an old thread it's fine, but necroing just for the sake of necroing should be stopped.

The only fair way to stop it is to archive the threads.

Brilliant! Apply the same rule to everything anyone posts, and the Anandtech forums will be a better place. Everyone knows this.

That isn't really quantifiable, WNB. You can do better, give me something concrete!

We should just have them all locked and then the WNBs cannot complain, at least until they find something else to weep over.

Yeah if there's no purpose at all, it's pretty lame. Of course I wasn't blaming you for anything, you're about the best person in OT :)

Personal attacks (like the ones in your post) aren't quantifiable, but they're still against the rules.

(Not that I think the mods should do anything about tame personal insults - I'm just pointing out that there are poorly-defined lines that can't be crossed, and common sense will keep you on the right side of the line).

And Darkstar, and shortylickens...

It's annoying, because you don't know if you're wasting your time until you click on the thread and check the OP date. I guess they think it's funny for some reason.

If you tell us you're going to do something, I'll just click the report button on the posts that bump the threads. I reported one, but I didn't want to bug you with a bunch of reported posts if you're not going to do anything about it.
I only did it once and it was for a good thread.

As for "you dont know if you are wasting your time", grow up. OT is ALL time-wasting.
If you are worried about your time, get off the damn computer.

Sweet Jesus, are our lives really so shallow that we need strangers on the internet to moderate the details of how we goof off?

There is nothing wrong with bringing up old threads other than fact you dont like it. Theres a million things in this world I dont like and for about 99.9% of them I just let it slide. The other 0.1% are things that actually determine whether or not we live or die or become servants of an Orwellian government. They are not related to my leisure activities.

Bringing back old threads is perfectly acceptable according to the rules, we just havent been able to do it for a while and for some reason you think that means it must be wrong.
You need to study a little bit of history and find out about other folks who had the exact same mindset. "We havent done it for a while, so now that people are doing it again, its wrong."

Heh, I just got a warning for a thread bump as well. I used the search feature to find an old thread I found amusing and bumped it for others enjoyment.
Apparently this non-bump rule falls under the "we have no stated policy you just should have known" type of rule.
