Arizona or Ohio - where would you rather live?

I'd rather be hot than cold... and I'd imagine that the girls are in better shape in environments where they can't get away with wearing baggy sweaters for half the year.

Well I am from Ohio but parents recently relocated to Tucson... they are trying to get me to move out there so this thread is of particular interest to me.

I've been out to Arizona several times and it is very strange to me being an Ohio person. It started to grow on me after getting accustomed to it though. There really is no cut and dry answer but I'll list some pros and cons I feel of each place:

Ohio- has beautiful scenery, lots of rolling farmland, Cuyahoga National Valley etc However, it also has Cleveland which I consider a con
Arizona is definitely beautiful in a much different way, at least Tucson where I have spent most of the time there. The mountains there are really great but I prefer Ohio landscape overall

Cost of living is better in Ohio, but the economy is probably weaker in Ohio.

I don't like all of the lizards and creepy crawlies running around Arizona. For instance, there are wild pigs, rattlesnakes, big ass owls, foxes and all different types of animals that around in Arizona. Sure there is some of that type of thing in Ohio, but not nearly as much. In the winter or in the colder months we just don't have problems with bugs, etc.

Ohio has alot of cities that are close by... you can go to alot of places within a half a day's drive... Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinatti, DC, New York City etc.
I suppose you could say the same about Arizona, such as Phoenix and San Diego, perhaps LA... I'll call this somewhat of a tie between the 2 places

The lifestyle is better in Arizona I'd venture to say... sitting out next to the pool at night and having it be very warm even in what are considered the colder months was a real treat when I was in AZ.

For me it comes down to friends and family as well... its hard to feel comfortable in a place where you don't know the area and don't have family and friends. If I had a bunch of peeps in AZ it would be a totally different experience. For me, the big drawback of moving there is being so far away from where I am originally from. If you want to fly from Cleveland to AZ, you can usually get a direct flight into Phoenix but to get into Tucson you have to switch planes in somewhere like Chicago.
good post

I was born and lived in Phoenix till I was 8 yrs old then we moved to northeast Ohio. I haven't even visited back since I was 10, now I'm 21. Life kind of seemed to turn to shit since we moved here. I really want to go back there. I miss camping in the desert and shooting guns and driving on dirt roads and the wilderness etc. 🙂

Cuyahoga county sucks🙁

The nicer burbs are fine (Rocky River, Olmsted Falls, Westlake if you're not in high school, maybe Avon/Avon Lake).

It is just sad watching Cleveland and the surrounding cities die a little bit each year. The economy sucks, industries are leaving, and taxes are insane. I would have moved out of the county if it wasn't such a PITA to sell. So here I am, stuck and bitter😛

The Metropark system is great. I would enjoy them even more one county away 🙂

If I absolutely had to choose one or the other, I'd take Arizona. It's on the correct side of the Rockies.

Definitely move to Ohio! If almost everyone living in Arizona would pack up and move to Ohio my world would be a happier place.

You'd be wrong. Being a tubby two-ton is no reason to cover one's midriff.

Oh, and I don't care if it's a dry heat or not, when it's 120 & 30% humidity in the middle of August in Phoenix...IT'S FREAKING HOT. It's disorienting walking outside at 11:00PM and it's still 100+ degrees.

But it's still not the same type of misery that is Midwest muggy summers.

Midwest isn't that muggy.

try the Southeast.

30% Try 10-15%...

I am more comfortable in 100f / low humidity than 60f with 95% humidity...which was practically every morning in NH this summer. Now we get stuff like 50-55f, raining, 80%+ humidity...it sucks.

Southeast is hot and humid, which is just as bad or worse. 😛

Ohio. Arizona is too hot. Hell, even Ohio is too hot, but between the two...

Oh, and not to mention the bugs! I have enough trouble sleeping at night just thinking about spiders, snakes, and other assorted bugs (that generally aren't a problem in Ohio during the winter months). I'd never be able to sleep in AZ.

I love Ohio, but I am sure the winters are nice in Arizona.
I don't think I could handle their summers though.

Also, I might go insane if I had to go through life without seeing trees or grass except on watered lawns and golf courses.

Ive lived in both AZ & WI & Id take AZ any day of the week. You get used to the heat once you lived there for a while. The only downside to AZ is that there are a lot more dangerous critters to run into.

I'd kill myself before moving to any southwestern state. In fact, make that any southern state (and yes, I've lived in quite a few already).

I like to enjoy seasons. Winter can suck sometimes but mid ohio doesn't get hit too hard usually.
Clear and sunny every day and nasty hot in summer would get old.

So does rainy and gray and humid all summer...
