this is a statement of an idiot. since AZ law allows its residents to openly carry firearms, there are statutes restricting their possession in specific places. all kinds of places have those signs up. the frys electronics you went to happens to be next to a pretty unsafe area, but you could go to north scottsdale and see the same signs. i have yet to worry about anyone carrying firearms around in stores. sure i see it on occasion, but i rarely worry about it.

Well, duh. What the hell is the purpose to carrying a firearm for protection if you don't always have it with you? Are you only going to bring it with you for occasions when you know that you're going to be assaulted? Oh, wait, you can't really plan for that, can you... so I guess you just have to have it on you constantly.

You do understand that people who carry guns don't do it just to show it off to people, right? They legitimately want to feel safer by having a firearm with them. It completely defeats the purpose if you don't have it with you.

is there certain functions where carrying a firearm is passe? are certain shops so protected that a person that feels they should carry a weapon would feel comfortable enough to leave it in their car instead? i dont understand where youre coming from. you treat the weapon as a fashion accessory in your statements. if a person feels they want to carry a firearm, then they will as long as it is not posted as forbidden. area doesnt really change their opinion on whether it is necessary or not, and that doesnt make people extreme.

carrying on a day-to-day basis is what they choose to do, its not really situational for the most part.

I understand carrying it in a bad part of town and especially having firearms at home or even leaving it in a glovebox, but having it while you go to Safeway and Target is a joke. Not a joke in the way that it's not proper fashion, but a joke that they believe it's neccessary to feel safer at Fry's. Plus, it's not like those signs are going to stop bad people from commiting a crime inside if that's what they set out to do.

Without going into whether the mindset is correct or baseless paranoia, gun supporters argue that you never know when a crime might happen. You might go to Fry's and get robbed in the parking lot. It doesn't matter that it rarely happens, the point is that it is always a possibility. In that sense, always having your gun with you is simply being prepared for the possibility that something might happen to you.

Your own sentence at the close speaks to that mindset: "Plus, it's not like those signs are going to stop bad people from commiting a crime inside if that's what they set out to do." That's the whole reason people who carry guns want to be able to carry them everywhere. They believe that having a gun on them will offer them some form of protection and serve as a deterrant to people who would try to commit crimes against them. Whether or not that mindset agrees with your own is irrelevant; that's what they are thinking when they try to get looser gun laws in regards to concealed carry, open carry and the like.

Personally, the more I'm exposed to guns, the more I think they should be legal. I used to be very anti-gun, but that's because I never had exposure to them, just exposure to paranoid PSAs which told me that every gun will kill me and my family members because it wants to. I'm now living with a veteran who has a small collection of firearms, and with exposure to seeing how guns work, I think the paranoia about guns in the general population is pretty absurd. I don't think that if everyone carried guns, there would never be a crime again, but I also don't see the need for extremely restrictive gun laws for people who want to carry them legally.

Guess you didn't hear about the flash rob/mob that happened at a target recently. The point remains, if you need it, better to have it on you than sitting in the car. And assaults/robberies/car jackings are pretty common at gas stations (you're pinned in between the pump/car, with a vehicle that is easy to steal, even easier for bad guy if you left your door open with keys).

How about at a grocery store where some congress lady named Giffords was doing a meet and greet?

And your correct about those signs, it just means "easy target" to criminals. Then again concealed means concealed if you know what I mean. Better to save your life and get a misdemeanor later.
