The problem with this issue is that one side refuses to show any compassion for desperately poor people who are risking their lives to escape abject poverty, and the other side refuses to recognize that the problems caused by these immigrents are very real, very serious, and not concentrated on a few border states.

I think another thing that seems to often get overlooked is that all those people didn't just cross the Border for kicks. They came because for a very long time there were Jobs waiting for them and the Government turned a blind eye because there were many Businesses who wanted them as "Illegals".

That's why there is a legal immigration process. If there were no way that foreigners could come into this country then I would have real issues. There are however, and that the world is full of the disadvantaged does not mean that we can afford to drop the borders and hand them money.

What you may not have thought of is how people who went through the immigration process (which is nothing compared to many countries. Try to emigrate to NZ from the US and see how hard it is) feel.

Many I've spoken to are angry that they followed the law and now those who have decided they can ignore US law will get in for free. Since they come from the same background you'll find it hard to say they have no understanding of the situation, in fact quite the reverse.

My wife has a student from Columbia. Do you know what many believe happens when you cross the border into the US? We give them money. Just hand it to them.

Many may think there are jobs, but many more just wing it. It's not like they are going to get in trouble for it.

Boycotting Arizona will just hurt all the illegals who work in the tourism industry. Laff, good use of common sense.

Until you understand that it is natural for people to be upset when they see other people in these situations through no fault of their own, and only in poverty becuse of their birth place, you will spin your wheels. I understand that we can't have open borders, and I understand that we need (and have) an immigration process. But part of the solution has to address the needs of the people who are looking to come here. I don't know if that involves more direct aid to Mexico, I don't know if that involves streamiling the immigration process to get more people here legally, I admit that I don't know what the answer is here.

Direct aid to Mexico will not solve the problem. The issue is the lack of opportunity in Mexico for the millions that have left and the storybook promise of streets paved with dollars.

Just like a temperature gradiant, you have to remove the conducting surfaces to allow the temp to remain different.

And how many of the bleeding heart illegal immigration supporters actaully take in the illegals and shelter them forever until they are legal?

They always want the other person to pick up the cost; never themselves.

and for true hypocrisy, I was in a waiting room for awhile today watching that idiot rick sanchez on cnn. while the news about the latest ny bomber was coming out, he was complaining while reviewing the paperwork required to become naturalized at how easy it was and how it didn't ask enough tough question about criminal activity/groups and there was no where to research that answers beyond what the applicant puts down on the questioner.

WTF does the idiot think those just crossing the damn border are, all shiny happy bunny rabbits.

I'm seriously considering firing my landscaper. He says he's legal but only wants cash. I caved and didn't press the issue because he's so cheap (15 bucks an hour for anything), but I'm going to ask him how he feels about this law.

His answer determines his fate.

Anything?

George Alan Rekers wants his number.

I've got a kid coming out. So far it looks like he's going to be cheaper than the mexican. The mexican is flat 15/20 bucks an hour and the white kid is 15/hour per person, materials included. He's laying down a whole pallet of mulch and weeding for 240 bucks (8 hours, two people), mulch included.

Go go gadget capitalism!
