All you should tell them is how you were involved. A giant poster didn't hurt anybody, the punishement can't be too severe. What's the big deal if you get suspended?

well I am graduating this year and I would rather not get suspended since it might jeapordize my admitted status to college next year.

i haven't admitted anything of consequence here and i dont think any sort of investigation beyond interrogating students will result from this.

Personally I am with most of the guys in the forum, own up. Now this doesn't meant that you have to tell them who else was involved.

One thing most people have missed is you are asking for advice.

This depends on the administrator, and how they are viewing it. One of the worst things you can do is this case is attack them. I would stay very calm, and answer the questions that you feel you can, and say that you don't feel ok answering the ones you don't. Never use the word won't or can't, because that will just get them more riled up.

You're kidding, right? Unconstitutional? Since when does that blanket document protect everybody against everything? And why the hell would you want some "organization" to help you out with this? If you were involved and got caught, take your suspension and stop being a baby. If you weren't involved tell them so, and tell them to prove you were, and if they suspend you have your parents talk to the school board.

I really wish that KIDS would stop thinking that they can do what they want and be protected from the consequences.

thats pretty much what I was planning on doing. I'm not sure exaclty how I am going to decline to answer questions without sounding rude or gulity. Thanks for understanding this thread.

i admit that my post came off pretty badly but I honestly dont expect anyone to come to my rescue i was simply wondering is there is anything I can cite that will make it easier. I am sorry for my role, and am willing to accept any consequences or punishment for my actions and involvement... but I am not comfortable discussing any other students. I am more than willing to co-operate about my part in all of this and that is about as far as I am comfortable going.

The problem is that it's a school and not law enforcement, so things like burden of proof and due process are not handled the same way. Trying to claim things like "it's unconstitutional" or "you can't prove anything" just makes you sound like a smartass. I know this from experience 🙂

That's also why getting your parents involved is a good bet. I know you don't want to be "that kid" whose mom bails you out, but nothing gets school administrators moving like an angry parent. They just don't want to deal with that kind of crap so they buckle quickly.

Just tell them what your part was, own up but tell them that simply, You are not willing to rat on other students. If your honest, not using a tone, and the administrator is reasonable, he/she will accept that. If they ask why you are unwilling to rat, tell them your reasons. Personally I'd ask for someone else to be in the room beside you and the admin. Who that person is is up to you. I might pick a guidence teacher or parent, because they won't try bulling you into anything with a parent or outside party. Also KarenMarie's approach is a good one! Kudos to her/him.

There isn't anything you can cite. This isn't a courtroom, you're not under arrest, nothing like that. They can kick you out of school if they want, and think they have enough evidence to do so. If they don't, then simply tell the truth that you weren't involved, no problem. If you were involved and they have proof, deal. Accept it and they'll probably give you a 2-day or something, no biggie.
