Arghh! Why does Real Player & Windows Media Player lock up my computer???

Everytime I play a video clip larger than 160 x120 with Real Player or Windows Media Player my computer locks up about 3 or 4 seconds into the clip. I think the clips are 320 x 240. I dont have any trouble with smaller clips that are 160 x 120. Whats going on? I have this trouble on more than one computer.
