I'm sticking with ones with higher detection rates, well, pending i can get this sucker installed.

AntiVir updates liek crazy on my comp... it's getting to the point where I'm just about ready to ditch it. Only thing is I'm @ 4 yrs and no virus.

Same. I think right after the new version was released the servers were flaky and updated like every 2 days. It seems to do it like twice a day now. But it's not that annoying anyways.

i just searched, i have no *.key file

I'm not sure then, Kaspersky created a directory C:\Kav, as well as C:\Program Files\Kaspersky. My key was placed in the former of the two.

nope, no C:\Kav, only the one in program files....

and yes, this is version 6

What directory did you download Kav too? Any key files in there?

I downloaded it to my desktop, then dumped it on the external drive for the format... And no, the ONLY file you download from newegg is an .exe, the installer.

What directory did you extract the .exe file into?

I ran it on my desktop.

What is it with people jumping between anti-virus packages every few months? Just stick with something that works reasonably well, and that you like using. You don't have to run the subjective "best" all the time.

/weak rant

Why do you think i went to KAS? I was sick of the free ones that didnt work.

I wasn't necessarily directing that toward you.

1. Grab free versions of AV/AS
2. Be proactive about keeping computer clean and where you surf.

What, you think I need help with keeping my computer clean? No thanks, I've got that under control.

Kaspersky is good. I got rid of Norton Systemworks 2005. HAhahaha so much faster! Not noticeably faster with this Opteron rig, but wtih my laptop is quite noticeable.

I use AntiVir + Kerio rather than the Norton Internet Security suite crap that our school has for free. Makes a world of difference resource wise on my laptop.

Do you still have that .exe file from newegg laying around? Extract it into a new directory and see if you can locate a key there

I've had pretty good luck with both AntiVir & AVG along with free Zonealarm on pc's that don't visit any questionable websites (ie: not mine! :p ) ... I use Zonealarm Security suite on my main PC & its caught several nasties since I re-installed XP 1.5 months ago. (every one of them has been snagged infecting Sun Java in one way or another btw)

Kaspersky is very effective & I also like NOD32 for stand-alone AV, but I've had the best luck with ZA Security suite & Panda Internet security suite.

Funny, I bought Kav off Newegg almost a year ago and downloaded it just as you did, threw it on a PC I reinstalled Windows on yesterday and it installed fine.
