So i bought Kaspersky Anti-Virius from Newegg.com, their downloadable software... Once you pay, you log into your acct and bam, there is the software to download.

Right there next to the download it says:
Software name: Kaspersky? Anti-Virus Personal...
Download Address 1[SerialNumber=Not Serialized,UnlockCode=No Unlock Code Needed]

So cool, i download the program, throw it on my backup drive, reformat (as i planned to do anyway), install Kaspersky, and BAM... What pops up? It wants a damn activation code...

WTF?!?!

UPDATE: To kaspersky's credit, they were VERY quick to respond to my e-mails and this morning when i got up, i had an email with the key attached.

Yeah I had that same problem when I downloaded the software. There should be a key in your installation directory if I remember correctly

I don't know..who said that?

Well, if you're paying for AV when there are so many free options out there, it's gotta be the best right? I use AntiVir btw.

I used AntiVir until their damn update server broke for like 2 weeks... Then i switched to AVG, and got a NASTY infection...

I'm sticking with ones with higher detection rates, well, pending i can get this sucker installed.

Installation directory? You mean the temporary directory it used when it installed it, or the actual directory it resides in now? Because i dont see anything.

I think I got burned with AVG once too..may have been Avast..but I'm still running Avast, so let's say it was AVG. :p

I'm not sure then, Kaspersky created a directory C:\Kav, as well as C:\Program Files\Kaspersky. My key was placed in the former of the two.

av-comparatives.org list kas/bitdef as the best.

you need a key file for activation. I hope you got version 6 because that was released a few mths ago

edit: apprantly i'm dated, AntiVirusKit (AVK) is the new best..

What is it with people jumping between anti-virus packages every few months? Just stick with something that works reasonably well, and that you like using. You don't have to run the subjective "best" all the time.

/weak rant

Eh. AntiVir still works for me, but yeah, email Newegg about that. They resolve it fairly quickly considering that you did pay for it.

1. Grab free versions of AV/AS
2. Be proactive about keeping computer clean and where you surf.
3 ...?
4. Profit!

I downloaded it to my desktop, then dumped it on the external drive for the format... And no, the ONLY file you download from newegg is an .exe, the installer.

AntiVir updates liek crazy on my comp... it's getting to the point where I'm just about ready to ditch it. Only thing is I'm @ 4 yrs and no virus.

What directory did you extract the .exe file into?
