Argh! My Win2K Pro Won't Start! Help!

IceT

I just installed Adaptec EZ CD Creator 5.0 and after a reboot during loading, there is a blue screen saying that it's a stop error and if you see this error again, try remove any anti-virus software or other utility software. Then, I popped my Win2K Pro CD and repaired the OS but no luck. Then, I tried launching safe mode but the same old blue error occurs........So, my question is, what causes this error and how can I recover it? Can I at least enter the safe mode to backup the stff?

Thanks.

Is the EZ CD Creator software compatible with W2k? Is the CD burner internal or external? If it's external, try disconnecting it and booting into safe mode. Sorry I don't have any other ideas right now but that's where I would start.

Oh dude, thanks for the URL.....I just formatted my HD last night but I will take a look at the follow up. Let's hope that there will be a patch🙂

I had a similar problem, had EZCD 4, uninstalled it, installed 5.0 then it would freeze at the boot screen. I was able to get in Safe Mode, it did take a minute or more. I uninstalled 5.0, followed the Adaptec advice and reinstalled 5.0. Works well now.

The 5.0 install is truly a POS, they ought to include the Knowledge Base info upfront, not after they have locked up your OS.....

IceT- I had this happen this morning whtn I installed EZCD 5 Plat on my server. I got a BSOD on startup with the error calling out "evian.sys". I booted to the recovery console and tried a repair- No dice. I then rebooted to the recovery console and selected the command prompt option. From there I renamed the file from .sys to . old and rebooted. System returned to normal and I then uninstalled the program, rebooted, renamed evian.old to .sys, copied it back to the directory(winnt/system32/drivers), rebooted, disabled NAV and reinstalled ezcd5 and the system came up fine. I think that the issue may be a norton issue.

Oh yeah, that's the "Evian.sys" boot error I got before! I am gonna dump my EZ CD 5, caused my too much troubles. Oh man, if you guys could reply me earlier, then I would not have formatted my HD (lost some eMails). I didn't know to rename the evian.sys to evian.old. Well anyway, thanks for your valuable information🙂

I would continue to run the ezcd5. BUT when you install ensure that your antivirus of choice is disabled... I have since reinstalled and both the OS and the App are fine
