Rant...

What's up with NBC (network, not cable) and their lousy coverage of the Olympics. I've just sat through two mind-numbing hours of crap "I got a frontal lobotomy and lost my legs, but I'm here at Sydney--it's a dream come true" stories with only 30 minutes of actual event coverage. What the heck? Even then, it's only prelims or heats of "exciting" Equestrian athletes. Damn time difference! With 18 hours, they've got the time to program all this crap up so that we gotta hear every little sob story of every athlete that's competing. Just show the damn events!

End rant...

I'm going to the gym and relieve a little frustration with some bagwork. Damn, wish I had DirectTV or lived next to Canada...

Yup, nbc really blew it this time. They paid a crazy 700 mil for the games, and their ratings so far are horrible. Serves them right:) wahah! Sux for us though:(

NBC paid $900 million for the Olympics, and have spent years preparing for it. They've done hundreds of surveys around the country, talked to thousands of people, conferred with everyone out there, so I would think they know more than us, what the "average" person wants. And if you're going to bash on NBC, there's a whole bunch of other threads to do so...otherwise I'd consider you neffing :)

I agree. Utter crap. One thing to check out is the coverage during the day on CNBC & MSNBC.

<cue dramatic music>

When she was all but 12, she had a dream, a dream that no one believed she could accomplish, well, everyone but herself. And so she took the dream and one step at a time, turned it into reality. And today, as she stands before the world, looking down at her family and parents, those who doubted her, she thinks to herself, "I made it, I really made it". Now her reality was becoming something of a dream, as she represents her country. She'll have to compete alone, but she'll have the millions of her faithful followers watching closely, cheering her on. Yadda yadda yadda.

<cut the music>

*wipes tear from eye* Now can you honestly tell me you didn't find that just heartwarming, and just makes you think of what a human being is capable of accomplishing?

That's pretty funny, CBC paid 20 mil for the exclusive Canadian
rights to the games they and are spanking NBC in any U.S. market
they reach (Seattle, Detroit, Buffalo...). If any of you have
been watching CBC you may have noticed that they are now adding
bits such as

"We would like to let our American viewers know that we'll be
showing the U.S./Italy basketball match later this evening..."

from time to time. The sad thing for you guys is that almost
every house in Canada gets NBC, while very few homes in the U.S.
get CBC. Oh well, your loss ;)

You know why NBS got it over CBS? Because the olympic commitee didn't like the human interest crap that CBS did. Now NBC is doing it.

You know that NBC is doing the human disinteresting junk not because they did surveys, but because they are a bunch of whiny ass liberals.

Oh screw you, compassionate conservatives were the force behind this horrible coverage. Anyone with half a brain knows that.

You must be some angry old white guy.

My freakin' cable company doesn't have MSNBC, and it really pisses me off. Why doesn't NBC show sports like soccer on NBC? Show it during the day, I don't care, I'll tape it!! It seems like there are a lot of people who like soccer who might not have MSNBC, or even cable.

And you're right about the coverage dragging on. I want to watch the Olympics because I like sports!!! Sure, a little back story on the athletes is nice, particularly the Americans, but 20-minute vignettes about some South Gondwanaland weightlifter during primetime is just too much.

You know what else ticks me off? I went to nbcolympics.com figuring, "oh, they won't show results of still-to-air events on NBC's own olympic website" since I have to avoid ESPN.com like the plague so I can watch at night. Of course, NBC puts the damn results on their website. NBC is suck.

I hate to break it to you but, no one in the US gives a rat's ass about soccer. That's why it's banished to a network that no one watches. I think they squeezed it in between rhythmic gymnastics and ballroom dancing.

I know soccer isn't that popular here, but I gotta believe it's more popular than the triathlon and equestrian events.

I gave up on the Olympics a long time ago. I never got to see the events I wanted to see. Always the gymnastics, swimming, diving, and Ice skating (winter). Not enough of the Soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, archery, hockey, etc... games.

What a freakin' waste of time.

Bigsmooth, I'm totally with you. I'd love to see some football action, and not just the U.S. women's team. Forget that..show some of the men's football action.
