bah, someone donated an ibm thinkpad 770x to a department in the college of engineering and they asked me if i could install winxp on it, office xp, etc.

its an ok machine, p2 300mhz with 320 megs of ram.

the frikkin problem is that there's not enough resources to run all the hardware that came in the laptop + 2 lousy extra devices (cdrom + network card).

neither of these, not an A drive comes with the laptop, and is required. when i put both in, there are multiple IRQ conflicts. when i take the network card out and leave only the cdrom in, there are no resource conflicts, but the sound device is still not recognized unless i manually disable and enable the device. i've even tried changing the resource settings around, but no go.

damn that ibm for making their laptops without enough resources for even two addons!@!()#*$&@)(&$)@#(&%@)%(&!#@

I have WinXP running on my Thinkpad 600E(366mhz, 256+ ram) along with a DVD drive and wireless PCMCIA card, runs fine. 🙂

yes, i can see the sticker that sez designed for winnt or win98 <shudder> 😀
Precisely. And, did you think about checking out the Microsoft site to run a hardware compatibility test on the laptop before starting the installation of Windows XP? How can IBM be labeled the "bad guy" at this point? How was IBM supposed to know 3 years ago when the laptop was built that XP would be just around the corner and their laptop should run XP?
