I've read that even recent ones that you can still purchase have no problems with backups.

Mine's October 2000 and works. Someone posted a URL that discusses which units work and which don't recently. I did a search here and found it when I got my DC for Christmas.

Stop, this question has been asked at least twenty times!

The ONLY Dreamcast that doesn't play CD-R games were Hello Kitty Dreamcasts released ONLY in Japan, so any console bought in the US WILL play CD-R's, no matter when it was produced!

All European DCs of any date can play backups - I know that much. I heard that about the Japanese ones too though.

Who cares about copied games when new-legal ones are so cheap? I picked
up a DC and 19 games during December and only paid more than $19 for Skies
of Arcadia.

Let me know when you can go to a store and buy a DC game for 20 cents, which happens to be the average price of an 80 minute CDR.

Oh, wait a sec. You aren't factoring in computer costs (wear and tear) and your bandwidth (if you downloaded, let's assume you do).

That would probably bring each game up to the 23-25 cent range. :)

personally, I got sick of looking on webpages and irc awhile ago.

I got a newsgroup subscription. most everything I get comes from there. @Home had a dreamcast thread, so I just got my games from there. They repost games all the time. You can probably post a request and it'd be filled in a matter of days. Especially if you want CT2, since it's only a couple files to begin with.

if you want to get a premium newsgroup subscription, here are some choices...

giganews.com
newscene.com
