Why can't I get a Hewlett Packard printer that lasts more than 2 years? I mean seriously, is there some kind of time code in this hardware to cause them to expire prematurely?

Anyway- conspiracy theories aside- how are the Canon products? Any recommendations? Maybe another company is good for printers? I am looking for a good reliable all-in-one inkjet or B&W laser.

I am not going to buy HP anymore.

My HP 693C inkjet is probably 12 years old and still works good (ink is cheap now for it, it's my workhorse printer now). But for 5 of those years it was boxed up while I was overseas
I got a Canon a few weeks ago, but that's an inkjet and I've only used it a little so sorry I can't make any recommendations.

We had a HP 4si printer at work I think it was, lasted probably 10 years... untill we just had to replace it because that had been the plan for a few years, it still worked great, just refused to break

I still have every HP printer that I've ever owned, including a Deskjet 540C, Deskjet 720C, Laserjet 4L, Photosmart 1115, Photosmart 7150, Photosmart 2410, and Laserjet 2100 and all of them still work. The only one that has problems is the Laserjet 4L. It still prints but only if you put paper in through the manual feed. The automatic feed gets jammed for some reason.

Overall I'd say that HP printers are great.

I had the same problem as you with HP inkjet printers (can't speak about their laser printers, though).

After an HP died on me, I switched to an all-in-one Canon inkjet and have had no problems. Also, Canon's inkjet replacements are damn near half what HP's cost. I'm sure people can tell you where to get them cheaply. But if you need a replacement quick and don't have the time to wait for shipping, you can go into any store and get the Canon inkjets for a great price - definitely cheaper than an HP cartridge.

I use a B&W Laser for business purposes, but for inkjets for home use, I swear by Canon now.
