Okay I posted a message here several weeks ago about my computer that I am assembling. Something in it does not work. I cannot figure out WHAT it is, because I have no way of swap-testing certain parts (I can verify that the video card and hard drive are fine).
It's a Soyo Dragon+, Thunderbird 1800 XP w/ GlacialTech cooler, Crucial pc2100 256MB, Gainward GF3 Ti200. Power goes to the motherboard, because it starts to POST, however it gives a long beep and then powers off. I have no way of testing the motherboard, CPU, fan or memory in another system ... so what am I supposed to do now? Although the motherboard manual doesn't have a very comprehensive beep-code table, it seems that it is a memory and/or video card problem, OR that the CPU fan is not working.
The CPU fan, however, IS working -- I can watch it spin up. I am tempted to just RMA all the parts to the places I bought them, but that isn't a very good solution because there is really most likely only one that is bad, and that will take FOREVER.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I should go about fixing this? I have a ~$900 computer just sitting here and I'M GETTING DESPERATE!! 🙁
