Arg...PS2s keep getting in stock at amazon.com while i'm at school! Does PS2 support component video?

Out of about 8 shipments of PS2s at amazon.com I think about 5 have been while I was at school! (they only show 5 shipments on their PS2 page, they took down 3)

Anyway, the PS2 supports component video, right?

PS2 does support Component Video......you have to buy a seperate cable for it but it does support it.

I don't why you're still thinking about getting a PS2 over a dreamcast. A DC costs $150 and I KNOW you're not going to buy the games for it if you do get one. And you can go get a good DVD player for $200. So for the price of a PS2 and one game, you can get a DC with tons of free games and a DVD player, or get a PS2 with one game. Talk about a tough decision.

I got a Dreamcast and a 5-disc Pioneer DVD changer (DVD/VCD-cdrs) for $20 more than the price of a PS2.

See, I had the same logic as you guys, but GT3 and Metal Gear Solid2 just look amazing...maybe I'll hold off on a PS2 for awhile and get the DC+DVD now....hmmmmm....



What are some good DC games? NFL2k1, NBA2k1, Shenmue, SegaGT, what others?

The one thing I find somewhat intriguing is the startling rise of popularity both the original Playstation had and now the Dreamcast is having at the same time that piracy was/is spreading like wildfire.

Anyone notice this, or am I missing the ball (not that DC doesn't have great games, which is has a plethora of, much like the PSX did, but the paralels in timing in relation to rise in popularity are somewhat ironic, no?)

Well, many people believe that Sega is purposely doing nothing about piracy, and I tend to believe that as well. Pirates, although they may pirate all (or most) of the games they own, they still have to buy the system, the controllers, the VMU, etc, etc...so people who would normally say "No way! If I have to buy all that crap and THEN buy games, I'm not going to do that." So Sega doesn't have that big of a problem with it, because it increases their system sales. The people that should really be worried are the 3rd-party developers, because the games are their only source of revenue.

That's what I'm doing. Next late-spring, early-summer I'm going to see what the situation is as far as the X-Box and GameCube, and by then the PS2's price will have dropped. I'll be able to decide what's the best course of action.

You know what's funny....all these people arguing (not these people as in this thread, but fanboys across the nation (damn that was a tad bit sensationalized..lol)) about what is it essense, a win-win situation.

Here is what i did today.

I went up and bought a 50 pack of CDs from Frys so i could burn CD's of things that i enjoy. Then, I walked into the dreamcast aisle. I looked around, and then i saw the comparison of the PS2 and the DC.

They had Ready To Rumble Round 2 playing on two side by side screens, Playstation on the left and Dreamcast on the right, and Dead or Alive 2 also. Then, on the other side of the playstation 2 screen, was a nice 19" monitor with a Dreamcast playing the same game. It was down right BEAUTIFUL. I have had my dreamcast for 3 months now, and it made my JAW JROP. For $39.95, you can hook your dreamcast to your monitor and play absolutely jaw jropping quality games. If you want to play multiplayer, hook it back to your TV. I am saving my cash now for a VGA BOX.


Zip, youve talked to me before. I am telling you, the dreamcast is an incredible system. In my opinion, it blows PS2 away. Yes, I've played both.

I'll come back in here later with my list of favorite games and a couple links.

BTW - want a CDROM MP3 player? You just got one. VCD's? Yup.

I've had an Interact VGA box (the best one) since the day it was out and have been playing my DC on my 21 inch Trinitron ever since.....it's damn hard to go back to TV after that. I was actually worried about that when I got my PS2, but then I got a Monster S-Video cable for my PS2 and all was well


Another thing about the VGA box that makes it so awesome are the sound inputs....I had the DC on my 21 inch Trini and my Cambridge DTT2500's....it was sweet.


Despite that...I still sya go with the Dark Side =)

Yawn... NFL2k1 is just as good as Madden, if not better; it also has interenet play. SSX is cool but not worth the price of a PS2.

Oh yeah, when Virtua Tennis 2 (sequel to the best tennis game ever) comes out next year it will also have interenet play.

Oh ya...I think the comparison between R2R2 between the PS2 and DC is rather unfair....it wasn't a rather pretty game to begin with...

I'd say compare NFL2k1 to Madden 2001 to get a closer judgement (and hell..even that may not be completely fair since Visual Concepts is on their second gen. game and they're practically a 1st party, maybe 2nd).

Oh don't worry pg19, I will eventually join the darkside and get a PS2. When a mod chip comes out for it and it drops to $200. Not to mention Metal Gear2 (won't be out till fall 2001 ). But right now I see no reason to drop $300 for a PS2.
