Arg! my Sony laptop keeps turning itself off. Nooo, it's not power management!

Arg. My stupid sony vaio laptop (PCG-GRV550) keeps turning itself off. My power settings are set to always on. It doesn't go into hibernation or standby, it just turns off. The weird thing is, it almost never turns off when I'm using it! Only when I leave it alone and idle does it turn off like this.

Has anybody heard of this problem before? I'd really hate to go through the hassle of trading this one in for a new one. thanks!

did the battery run out?
maybe theres some program that causes it to shut down when idle.

this happens while it's plugged in
