Arg, I need a good Windows CD player program!

Surely, somewhere out there, there's a CD player program that defies reality. It stands above the rest, clearly superior.
WHAT IS THIS SOFTWARE!?

🙂 Seriously, what's a good CD player program? I'm sick of Winamp and the basic Windows player. I must have a simple interface and useful features!

I'm curious...what other functionality do you need besides play, stop ff, rew, pause, EQ, volume and cddb/freedb connection (and maybe visualizations/plugins)? I can't think of other features you would need that are not offered by that winamp, cdplayer, media player, etc.

You're going to think I'm joking, but I'm not. Go to "Start -> Run" and type in "mplay32". This will bring up the old (and I mean OLD) windows media player. From the "Device" menu, select "CD Audio", then just use the standard controls. It doesn't have any fancy features, but it only uses 488K (yes K) of memory while playing a CD, as opposed to the 8-10 megs used by "cdplayer" or the 17-20 megs used by WMP 7. Also, if you quit from "mplay32" withouy stopping the CD, it will continue to play and it will use no memory at all. To me, the low memory use is the best feature since I really don't care about being able to name tracks or watch a cool visualization. I know that "mplay32" is still on Win2K and XP Pro machines, but I'm not sure about Win ME or Win 9x.

I just tried start -> run -> mplay32 on win98 and got nothing. I'm happy with Winamp, so I don't really care. 😛

<< This is a job for Winamp. >>

Winamp puts those annoying pauses between tracks. It really sucks on a live or continuosly mixed CD.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I used to use an early version of Quintessential(sp?) CD Player. Back then, it was the cat's ass.
Do a search for it, I'm sure it's still being updated. It was fantastic.
Or try download.com and search for CD player, then sort by rating.

I am using CDmax as I write this. Supports CDDB and dosen't have the annoying gap between tracks like Winamp does.

You can get it off download.com
