Arg - I hate my mailman.,

Ryan

Lifer
MY family has 4 cars, one for each of us. ONly two cars fit in our driveway, the other two have to park on each side on the driveway out by the road. There are no other places to park on my property. One of the parking places is in front of our mail box, which happens to be the place where I park. I park in a way so that the area directly in front of the mailbox is not obstructed, and the mailman only has to walk two feet to drop our mail off - there are about 4 feet on eithe side that are unobstructed). Now, for years we had this really nice mailman who never have us any hassel about it. I used to talk to him all the time, he was a pretty good guy. Now, for the past 3 months we've had this asshole for a mailman. At first he started leaving notices in our box about how it is obstructed, and about how he will not get out of his car to deliever mail. Now, I've tried to move my car to a different area so that he doens't have to get out, but every once in a while I have to choice but to park there. Now, he just doesn't give us our mail at all if my car is parked in my usual space. Today I got a notice from him that we had had or "Last Warning" (underlined 3 times).

What should I do about this? Does anyone know where I can find a listing of the USPS Rules and Regulations? I have no choice but to park there, and I've made accomodations for him so that it's easy to drop the mail off.

I'm thinking about mailing a bunch of letters addressed to the "residents" of our address with "What to do if your mailman is an asshole." and "What to do if your mailman is too lazy to get his ass out of his vehicle" written on the front of them just to piss him off.

Build a garage, move the mailbox, whatever.

You realize how long it'd take him to deliver the mail everyday if he had to get out of his truck and walk around a car at every house he stopped at?

one of my mailman's did that when I was living in Dallas. It wasn't too bad for me since I had lots of room to move my car forward or back to open up space for the mailbox. But it sounds like you've tried everything you can and it's just impossible for you to make room.

Why don't you leave a note for him next time explaining that you have tried several times to find a way to make room for his lazy ass to not have to get up. If that doesn't work then call up your nearest USPS.

But he doesn't have to walk around a car - it just takes him ONE STEP, then all he has to do is EXTEND HIS HAND OUT and put the mail in the box. There are at least 4 feet of clearance on the left side of the mailbox (where I park) and 15 feet of clearance on the right side.

When I lived in South Dakota, the mailman had to walk up to each door to deliver the mail, yet this prick has the luxury of never leaving his padded seat in his vehicle. I mean, it's TWO FEET of walking distance, how lazy do you have to be?!

I can't move the mailbox because it'll just be blocked by the car on the other side of our driveway 😉

If he's leaving you notices about it, I think you can assume he's not obligated to get out of the truck to deliver your mail. Otherwise you could just take those notices to the postmaster and get him in trouble.

So he's probably allowed to not deliver your mail if he can't reach your mailbox without getting out of the truck.

He still has to put the vehicle in park, set the brake, get out, get back in, release the brake and put it back in drive. Imagine doing that 300 times each afternoon, and see if it makes your job harder.

You are parking on government property and blocking a government mailbox (yes you pay for the mailbox, but the government controls its use). So you better follow their rules. I know where I live you don't get warnings you get tickets or get towed for blocking the mailbox.

Related info about how "Postal letter carriers are instructed to refrain from delivering to locations they deem hazardous, and the Postal Service is reminding customers to keep access to the mailbox clear."

Sounds like you need to get rid of a car, to get a garage, or to park further down the street. Or maybe get a PO box and pick up your mail instead of having it delivered to your house.

Oh, for a process that takes less than 15 seconds, you make it sound so laborious 😉

...so they can tell you that he doesn't have to get out of his vehicle. The mail guy doesn't have a problem. I'm sure he gets his mail. You're the one who is not gonna' be getting mail if you don't come up with a solution to your problem. Union rules are on his side, no doubt about it.

Again, how is it not possible for you to simply park down the street a house or two and take 15 seconds yourself?

Because it's more of a pain in the ass for me than it is for him. 😛

So if there's all this clearance on the right side, why don't you park over there?

because that's the exit for my parents driveway 😉

15 seconds times millions and millions of customers. You whine when you are personally inconvenienced and when the postal rates go up. You are on a route where the mail is delivered from a truck. The post office pressures the mailman to perform, creates rules he has to obey like not delivering to obstructed boxes and he's not only taken the time to warn you repedly because all he wants to do is leave your mail in the proper way and not, NOT, cut off your service and you call him a lazy ass. Sounds to me like he should have suspended delivery to your house long ago. I bet you're good for Christman too. Put a cardboard box or basket on the hood of your car street side marked MAIL when you park there during delivery hours. Oh wait, you're probably too lazy.

This is the mark of a wise man.

You realize that if you fight, you're going to lose this battle. The mailman has the right to refuse to deliver your mail (if previous posts are accurate) and you know that if you put up a fight, he'll shaft you.

Now if only we could get this wisdom into other threads where people insist on bucking authority when a reasonably intelligent person could easily predict failure...
