Alright.. long story short:
I had a 450mhz laptop that dell's onsite people (unisys) SCREWED up BIGTIME.

They replaced it with a brand new inspiron 5100. 2.4ghz, 256mb ram, dvd drive, 30gb hdd,

The lcd on that one had severe ghosting on the right side. I called the support guy, and he shipped me out a replacement.

I just got it this morning.. It's a 5150. 3.06ghz, 512mb ram, dvd/cdrw, 40gb, fx5200 32mb.

and two RED dead pixels.

What should I do?

1) call the guy and complain. again, after getting a 3.06, burner, etc.
2) deal for awhile.. (it's possible that after they get the old laptops back that they will enact a warranty for this one. As of now dell's site shows no warranty.
3) deal forever. Yes it has two dead pixels, but it is soooo fast.

no poll cause I wanna hear what you have to say about it

thanks

Wow going from a 450 to a 3.06 under warranty and your complaining...

I would be happy with the 3.06.

Yeah it sucks having two red pixels, but look at the hardware!!! Keep that sucker and don't call back unless something more serious occurs.

I wouldn't complain about the two bad pixels. What if something even worse is wrong with the replacement unit? You were fortunate to get that model so don't rock the boat :)

I think Dell has done enough - you got quite a good deal so far, bad pixels aren't the end of the world. I personally would sell the 3.06 GHz laptop on ebay, then take that money and buy a new Centrino laptop - with the full warranty. You are already much better off than you were with a broken 450 MHz laptop. Collect your winnings and avoid the stress and frustration of trying to milk Dell out of every cent you can.

And more accurately, buy a Toshiba or IBM. I used to recommend Dell laptops after the other two mentioned but recent experience taught me Toshiba and IBM are the way to go. A guy at work got in a new Compaq something or other lappy, not a cheap one, and XP already blue screened on him during started up and restarted the computer. This is on a brand new system mind you. My gf's Dell that's from '00 is starting to do weird stuff as well like its on its last legs. My old school IBM still runs like its brand new and its gotta be 10 years old at least.

Deal. You'll get over the irritation of the pixels soon enough and you got a SWEET machine.

interesting thought. I wonder what I could sell this for on ebay, and how much a new ibm would cost.

what's a good ibm?

I would check out the laptop forum, but the IBM ThinkPad R and T series are both good laptops.

Try rubbing the pixels gently... Sometimes stuck pixels will recover if you do that.

Press on the screen where the stuck pixels are with just enough pressure to cause the screen to "ripple". Massage that spot in a circular motion. Worth a shot.

Dell have done more then enough imo.

2dead pixels is NOTHING compared to what you got. Sell the laptop and buy a new one.
