It;s just kinda popped to my attention over the last couple of days, that we've been kinda... i don't know, pacified? or something due to this mining crisis thing don't you think?
Like there's still a healthy bunch of reviews and questions going up about "Shall i upgrade to a 1070, is it worth it" "Should i just go ahead and upgrade to the 1080" and one thats currently up in another forum thread "Is x i7 cpu bottlenecking my 1080"
We're kinda still looking at the 1070's and 1080's in awe.. like if they had a few of them in the window of your local store, we'd all be huddle outside the store in the snow with sleeping bags and stuff looking in the window with eyes all wide and fixated, foegetting that it's absolutely (in modern computer terms) terribly outdated tech... i mean in any other time in recent history, 2 years (yes, next month the 1080 has been on the market for 2 years) would mean that we'd be looking at the 1080's and laughing thinking "Man remember when we used to think those were fast and they were 1000 bucks? hahaha".
A perfect example would be the 780 ti. And the original Geforce Titan from the same period right?
at the time that was out, we all marveled at the mind blowing numbers these things were churning out... the titan had omg... SIX gb of ram on it... and like 2000 cuda cores? But then like only a year or so later, the 960 came out and absolutely eclipsed the 780 ti putting the price of those units down to almost nothing in comparison, considering the 960 and the 950 are the lowest of that card lineup, and the 970 probably still beat out the 780 ti.. Progress was that fast.
These poor people who always wanted to have the best gear, barely had their shiny new 600 dollar cards installed when there was another drop in nm size and power consumption meaning there was another king of the hill meaning they wee back in the market for a newer one again!
But now, it's been 2 years since the 1080 came out, and still no news on when there'll be another jump in tech really? nothing confirmed. So are nVidia sitting on their hands as they know they can are are milking the redacted out of the 1080's aswell as having a SAVAGE amount of success in selling ALL of their old stock 9 series, 7 series, 6 series etc...
Do you think we havn't seen a new stepping because of the current demand from miners? Like if this mining thing didn't happen, do you think we'd already be on the 20xx series of cards or whatever they're gonna be called?
I mean, it'd be nice to be an nVidia shareholder right now wouldn#t it?
And i'm convinced the people in charge over at AMD are nothing short of mentally challeneged, considering the fact that they haven't been flooding the market with all different types of their old cards at reduced prices, as their cards would definitely sell like hot cakes... like they've missed out on MILLIONS if not 10's of millions of dolllars in sale revenue from the mining community because they aren't doing anything apart from releasing Vega, which is only gnna be bought by a very small minority of AMD hardcore fans... heck, I myself would nearly set up a graphics card company if this goes on any longer i swear!
it just seems like everything has ground to a complete halt, while we service the needs of the miners out there, it feels like they've abandoned us doesn't it?
There's not even any really demaning games coming out or anything that can be benchmarked,
i mean for gods sake we're still showing graphics card comparisons on software that came out in 2013... like the last time i was into building machines because i had a complete career change, and moved to 2 different countries, god married and divorced, and i come back and get a new PC< only to find out all the review sites are STILL tsting out graphics cards in blood Unigen Heaven and Farcry primal, And GTA and Crysis 3... some of them are 5 years or more old!!! I mean the heaven benchmark for heavene's sake (pun) lol..
Anyone got any opinions? Thanks for taking the time to read
