Aren't all 6x9 car speakers the same SIZE!!!

I have been researching car audio for my car for the past week or so and came upon Crutchfield. First I looked at all the 6x9 speakers in their site without choosing my car. I saw some 3-way cheap 6x9 and thought why not just get those. When I picked out my car, which is a 1996 Camry Sedan, the choice was eliminated.....some other more expensive 2-way 6x9 speakers came up in the same price range........WTF???!!!!

Aren't they all 6x9!!!!!????

I am in similar situation now. Trying to get some 6x9 speakers for my civic hatchback and they just don't "fit" in. Does anyone know of a place where they provide info on what size fits which car?

Mark.

What ZV said, some mount from the top of the rear deck, some from below it.

<< so how do I figure out which 6x9s fit my rear deck......? >>

You said it did it already above...

<< Around, yes. The depth can vary though. Some cars have ports that are too shallow to accomodate some speakers. >>

I hear that. I tried putting in a pretty high end set of 6x9's in my eclipse a year ago... hooooooo boy did they ever NOT go in. I think the depth of the older eclipses in that area is something like 2 inches or so. That eliminates about 90% of all 6x9's that could go in there. I had to settle for 6.5's in the end. It still sounds good but it could be so much better.

Techie333,

You can use any 6x9 speakers.......I have the same car model and I'll tell you now that you'll need to either drill through the metal or go get a bracket or something because the stock speakers are held in place by 3 screws. I had to custom-make a bracket using wood to make my jbls fit...and thats only because I didn't feel like taking my car to a professional shop to get it done.
