AreMacs really easier to use and more trouble-free than PC's?

Yes and yes.

However for PC Enthusiasts (which is 90% of AT'ers) PC's offer more performance/customability & bang for your buck than a Mac does.

Easier? Trouble-free? Hmmmmm... If you take an average user out of equation, then both can be stated for PC's and Mac's.

Easier? I don't know. Trouble-free? Total crock of $HIT. I have to use these things everyday for video editing and every Mac in the room WILL crash atleast 10 times in a day. Saving your work every 2 minutes is a necessity on these machines.

You're running OS 9, huh?

same here

I agree with Spagina. This "Apples are Easier" campaign is crap. I and my brother both work on these machines and they can be just as annoying if not more so than PCs. I cant say I hate Apple, but I can say I dislike them as a personal choice since they're no where near as customizable as PCs. Apple is the AOL of computers.

Macs are nice, but they are seriously losing in the cpu power war and becoming far less cost effective than ever before. The gap is only growing wider.

Easier to use? You have to be kidding me. As with most people here, I've used an iBook, Toshiba Laptop, iMac and all sorts of PCs. Also, all Windows OS' and Mac OS'. Macs are absolutely a pain in the ass. Anybody who says Macs are easier to customize are full of sh1t. You can customize the hell out of a PC based machine. More stable? Every Mac OS I ever used crashed ALL the time and had to be rebooted. And that is even with G4s with gobs of ram. Macs easier to work on? Get out of town. We all know you can rebuild a PC in 2 minutes flat.

Face it, Macs suck and everybody knows it. It's just you diehard fans refuse to let go of them. Just like vinyl records, they're a pain in the ass. It's just a matter of time before Apple is gone.

I think macs ARE easier to use and more trouble free than PCs. I have yet to have an issue with my iMac running Mac OS X, sure Mac OS 9 crashed a lot, but thats in the past. Customizing OS X is a different story, but not everyone is out to customize their PC and just have eye candy, many people are looking for productivity in a stable, fast environment. If you want to customize your Mac's look you can throw Linux on it 🙂.

We use fairly new G4s at my work (DTP). The MIS people insist on running old versions of our software (Illustrator, Quark, etc) so the computers crash a lot. This may be because we still use MacOS 9. My home Mac (an old G3) also crashes a lot.

In fact, there has been a Windows revolution since 2000 came out. Id say PCs are now as easy or easier to use than macs. Then again, I never really got into using OSX, so Im not sure how well that works...

And what current PC for $1000 right now won't do that? You can barely buy a shitass iMac for that.

ohhhhhhh man let me tell u. I'm in yearbook at my school and we have a network of about 10 Mac's all located within a regular sized classroom or so. Even at that close of a space there's so many problems with the mac's. We store all the pages on one of the mac's, and no one can use that mac while people are using other computers because apparently there's too much cross action going on to that computer that any program would crash it immediately. We've had cases of pages from adobe pagemaker not saving, dissapearing, turning into something else, etc. recently I was trying to print an image from a digital camera that we hooked up to the mac. Computer crashed while tryign to load the images.

I'm not in charge of the mac's there, supposedly they have some expert that comes in once a week to make sure things are running smoothly. As far as I've seen, using networked mac's is a disaster.

No & No. My sister used a Mac for quite some time and convinced my parents to get one too. Both are incredible pains in the ass since even though I don't care for them, I'm asked to work on them. I've updated both to OSX and both are still not as reliable and definately not as fast as any of the Systems (x86 pc's) we have here at my house. My parents and my sisters children all love coming here and using my systems and would like to move away from the Mac's but are afraid they will hurt my sisters feelings. She's has to use them at work and thus wants her home system to be one also..........to bad for the rest of them!

I must have the world's best mac or something, cause right now the uptime is at: "7:58PM up 9 days, 23:30, 2 users, load averages: 0.17, 0.23, 0.24" and I use the thing every day.

I used an OS9 Ibook for a summer, and it sucked. It would crash alot, multitasking was a chore, and it would randomly just "sit there", as if it wasn't doing anything at all. Wtf? I don't like them.

My iMac (running OSX 10.2.3), that I use in my living room for listening to music and surfing the web while watching tv, has been completely trouble free.

macs are not easier to use... god i hate their interface. osx is probably about as stable as winxp. i know that previous OS for mac sucked a lot, but i think osx is to os9 as winxp is to winme, in terms of stability improvement.

I cant imagine not being able to customize my system if i went mac... yuck!

PC > Mac

hell even this is true:

C64 > Mac (ahh the good ol days)
