My parents never gave me any problems with gaming. They pretty much encouraged me to do so and I thank them for that. I know that if it weren't for gaming as a kid I wouldn't be anywhere near as technologically inclined as I am today.

when i was younger i used to play all the time (the HOURS i spent on MUDs) and my parents would tell me i'm wasting my time. now, i can see where they're coming from, there's just so many more interesting things to do outside of video games.

of course, when i was younger, i had much more free time, and didnt always have a car to go places. the amount of free time i have now is precious, i couldnt bear spending them on video games.

So instead you spend your time on an Internet forum? 😕

My dad plays the occassional game like Medal of Honor and a few others I've bought him. My mom doesn't care either way, so they aren't the problem. My wife on the other hand....*sigh* She has this aversion to the sound of machine guns. I mean she absolutely hates them. Of course I love war games so great fun ensues at the homefront....BAH!
My wife doesn't mind that I play - she plays Civ III every now and then and even likes to watch me play more "complicated games" on ocassion, but when she's not watching, I have to use the headphones. I don't mind - I can't hear her ocassional nag, either! 😉

Buahahaha. 😀 Classic and I feel ya, man. I hate wearing headphones because I like the pounding bass of explosions and the drone of planes and things but you're right it does make you insulated from the yack yack yack...

My Plantronics headphones have much better sound than my mediocre 3 piece Altec Lansing speakers. So I don't mind the headphones. They make it easier to tell which direction that fighter is coming from when you're manning the AA.
My wife didn't really like it when I would ignore her every night, play until 3am, and be tired and grumpy the next day. But she's pretty reasonable and doesn't mind if I play a couple times a week for a couple hours.

I don't think my parents have ever commented one way or the other about me playing games. Of course, I've only been a gamer for about 5 years now and I moved out of my parents house 15 years ago.

I've got some pretty decent JBLs but I wouldn't mind any advantage the headphones offered when I am forced to wear them. The ones I have are crap. That's one thing I really should invest in.

My stepfather was pumped when I got him a Radeon 9700 Pro for Christmas because C&C Generals was just running dog slow with his old video card. So no, they don't get upset.

I've been playing games on the computer ever since my Dad bought an Apple II+ about 24 years ago. Ever since then, no matter what my age or how much (or little) time I spend doing it, my parents have been really disappointed in me that I play computer games, always calling it a waste of time. They've never had a problem with my watching TV or movies, but they seem to think that video games are pure evil.

Recently, my parents came to visit me and my wife. During the visit, I was able demonstrate the monitor capabilities of my new DLP TV. My parents were very impressed with watching some HD content that I downloaded, but when I started to show them Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, they freaked out. They pointed out that not only was I playing computer games, but I was playing computer games and I was 28 years old!! AAGH!

I'm sure all of you play games; all of my friends/coworkers play computer/video games, so I know I'm not weird or doing something wrong. I'm married, I read books, I participate in church, I like Sports, I have a good job, I exercise; I'm just a normal person. However, my parents are just complete Nazis when it comes to my playing games. It makes me sick. After said freaking out, I turned to my Mom and just said, "fine, Mom, I'm going to Hell. Deal with it." I'd think they'd rather have me look at pr0n than play games. 😕

Anybody else have parents/aquaintences like this?

my dad is killer at war games, he loved DOD...MOHAA....and my step mom played games w/me

i'm 20 and my dad still gives me grief, but kinda accepts it

my mom is only annoyed in the fact that i used to plya command and conquer redalert2 to classical scores. She said it made me look like an evil genius or something, sending waves of men to their deaths while listening to mozart. *shrugs* 😛

I'm 37 and I play video games. My Mom comes out once a year to visit. She doesn't give me crap about anything I do unless it involves arguing with my wife.

I'm sure I will play video games with my son when he's older. It's all good.

My mom doesn't play games at all but my dad will play occasionally. I used to play Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye with him, now he likes to play Red Dead Revolver and GTA3. He still watches in awe as I play MMORPGs because for some reason he finds it hard to believe that all of the other characters on screen are actually real people.
