I've got $3000... and 4 more months of $505 rent + utilities left to pay... /cry...
no car, no insurance, no job even tho I'm trying for one that's convienent considering no car...

But.. I've got a wonderful wife, and my education I'm pursuing so that one day I may hand a resume in without being ignored.

So whatever that all amounts to, I've got it.

not really, what really sucks about 3rd world countries is the massive difference between poor and wealthy, but those wealthy in 3rd world countries easily match those wealthy here

The wealthy in (many) third-world countries actually do have LESS money than the wealthy here, but they live much better because stuff is cheap. For example, lot of my (high school) friends in Ecuador had maids to help clean their houses and do laundry, but most of their parents would fall well below the poverty line in the US.

Depends on what you would consider wealthy.
Finances don't keep me up at night, but I can't exactly afford to wipe myself with Ben Franklin.

I think there's a difference between rich and wealthy. I think it was in a Chris Rock standup routine, but he said something like... "The NFL football player is rich.... the white man who writes his check is WEALTHAY!"

what we're disagreeing on is exactly what is wealthy
for me wealthy means 1% of the population

I didn't realize we were disagreeing...I was just saying that despite the wealthy (we'll use your 1%) in third-world countries having fewer dollars than the wealthy (1%) in the US, they actually live BETTER in many cases, because stuff is cheap. Land's cheap, taxes are easily dodged, the hired help is dirt cheap.

My comment about my friends in high school was just to underscore the point that stuff is cheaper there. I wasn't saying they were rich. Certainly not in the 1% bracket. They'd probably fit in the middle or high middle class down there (which is a pretty small class down there, actually).

Parents are pretty well off, I am middle-class.

Wow... was just looking at the breakdown and I never realized that by household income we (wife and I) are near upper middle-class.

Sweet!
