Are you waiting for prices/fermi, not buying, or something else?

What are you waiting for? note: within THIS generation

  • I'm waiting for Fermi(definitely want to buy fermi)

  • waiting for prices on 5 series to fall, but definitely want a 5 series

  • I'm waiting for something else

  • I've already bought a 5 series

  • I'm waiting to see how fermi does so I can choose the best for the price

  • I don't plan on buying this generation for one reason or another

well, someone mentioned something in another thread about how many people are waiting for fermi, so I figured I would start a poll.

Personally, I only have a laptop so it doesn't matter to me :p

edit: something I don't like about vbulletin: I go in to edit my post, but it won't let me edit the title of the thread. ONLY the post.....

edit: nevermind... I'm retarded :p

editinfinity: for anyone that may want to know, it's in relation to this post

Everybody is waiting for Fermi for various reasons. Me included.

And by the way, you can edit the title of the thread if you click the "Advanced" button after clicking Edit.

I did that, but it only changes the title of the post and not the thread.

In a way I'm waiting for Fermi but only out of curiosity and as an enthusiast. I'm 90% likely to sit out this generation. Having a kid saps your time and the 4870 suffices for now when I do have time for gaming. Why spend money when you aren't making good use of the money spent? That's what I'm faced with.

You can't speak for ''everyone'' because some people are buying 5 series ATI cards now and not bothering to wait.Personally I'm torn between getting a 5850 now or waiting for Nvidia's new dx11 cards. My 4850 does work well so I don't know what to do yet.

My 260gtx will last me. This enables me some more time to make a cheaper better decision in the spring.

Around what time will Fermi be released? I decided not to go Ati since in Counter Strike: Source, there are some issues.

Wanted to get a 5850, but just ended up picking up 2 4870s for about the same price, power consumption and DX11 be damned. But my previous main rig was in a state of severe decline, so waiting around for 5800 supply/normal prices and/or Fermi was not really an option. Nonetheless, I'm happy with my purchase, I imagine it will be enough power to last me some time.

Waiting for Fermi and I will then decide if I want to game on my PC still and if so, which card is better for the money I will have available.

I was waiting on Fermi. But honestly with all that is going on with my life right now, including possibly getting into an MBA program. I am not sure with the lack of gaming I do now it is worth upgrading my GPU or machine. My gaming right now consists of playing Herats of Iron 2. Something that I can get away with on a computer from 2000.

I'll probably wait until the new cards come out, some shakeup ensues, and the dust settles before I buy a new gpu. I suspect (hope?) there will be a new price war...

I picked up a 4890 a few months ago - got a hell of a deal on it. I'll probably upgrade again when a $160 card will destroy what I have now. :p

I am waiting for the rest of the 5 series to come out to see if anything will work in hybrid crossfire mode with my IGP. If not, then I may wait till fermi hits the market to see if it causes prices to drop across the range of AIB's.

Right now, the 5-series is too high priced for it to be really worth it. If you buy a card now, you'll just regret it in a couple months (or 6) when HD5850s are $200, or AMD comes out with a 5790/5830 that is awesome for the price.

Personally I think Fermi is gonna have huge performance, but at the cost of huge cards, high temps, lots of power draw, and lots and lots of $$$.

Same here. Which of the 58xx are the best cards for 1920x1200 gaming?

I think the 5850 and 5870 both have plenty of 'oomph' for 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution, but the 5850 also isn't too bad when you look at bang for the buck whereas the 5870 is priced at a premium being the fastest single GPU card money can buy. I think both are pretty good overclockers as well. I imagine a 5850 or 5870 at ~1GHz will happily push 24" resolutions for a while yet.

And those people are probably curious if there purchase was a wise one. Fermi's launch will tell them that they either did "good", or could have done better.
So C'mon. Everyone is waiting on Fermi for one reason or another. Just like everyone was waiting for the 5870 for one reason or another.

Actually looks like quite a few have already bought.

I am sure fermi can't come fast enough for nvidia or slow enough for amd, but for the rest of us it is just the usual wait for something better.

The sport has been entertaining, but time for nvidia to release something.

This, and I don't mind waiting. My current 512MB 8800GTS is getting the job done for the most part, few enough exceptions for now.
