Are you using a mouse pad with your optical mouse?

I am not sure what has changed on my desk, but the mouse is not tracking very well any more. I used to like the 3M adhesive mouse pads. What do folks liek these days?

So I bought a $2 pad from Staples. Works like a charm.

I like cloth on neoprene, the type that's been around forever. It gives the right amount of friction for good control.

use one of the same size at work as well, mouse trackes better and is smoother with a pad. also dbls as an arm rest

1: Who uses optical? Laser!

2: No mouse pad, they collect cat hair and that tracks VERY poorly. My mouse is on the wood.

At work I use only my desk surface (veneer probably) with a Dell optical mouse.

Yes, I have an old fashioned cloth mouse pad at home and another one at work with a wrist cushion. My mice track fine without them but it's more comfortable and reduces noise.

Laptop: no with Microsoft blue LED. VERY impressed by the Microsoft blue-track thing that works on carpet. The only problem with carpet is that the mouse gets physically caught, otherwise tracking would be fine.

Come to think of it, maybe it's time I got a new mouse for home. Getting tired of how heavy the G5 (?) is even after removing the weights.

I'm surprised you find the G5 heavy. It's one of the oldest things I have because I like it so much. That and the fact it has the braided cable so it doesn't stick to anything, which I find helps a good deal too.

I'm surprised you find the G5 heavy. It's one of the oldest things I have because I like it so much. That and the fact it has the braided cable so it doesn't stick to anything, which I find helps a good deal too.

I've been using my G5 for probably 5 years, maybe more, now and I used to like the weight. But I've been using a lot of craptastic, $3 OEM mice at work and other places for a while, and the difference is noticeable.

And my wrist hurts from putting 200 hours into Diablo III, so I worry more now.

Hard plastic mouse pads make my optical mouse jump all over the place but old school neoprene pads work great.

Laser is more precise, but less forgiving of mouse surface. I personally don't notice a difference. I've had both, and like them equally well.
