Are you tired of people who cannot speak properly?

Admit it, most people you meet today do not speak properly. Either they do not speak loud enough, speak in broken sentences or simply mutter a few words. Other people insist on using the word "like" to help them communicate feelings but dont know how to express themselves WITHOUT saying it. Then you have people that speak in ebonic, which hardly makes any sense at all, unless you are able to translate it.

Almost nobody uses complete sentences either because they are too lazy to speak that way or they fear listener impatience. Even worse, some people take offense to being spoken to in complete sentences! Its amazing we are able to communicate at all. :frown:

Do you concur?

Well, 3 of the same responses, basically...on a serious note, I don't really mind how someone else is speaking unless it's incredibly "different". I've been told by many people, and I don't quite understand this, that I'm one of the best speakers they've ever heard, in terms of en-un-ci-a-ting and whatnot. Kind of weird when I heard it the first time...the second time, I asked exactly what they meant...

Then again, I basically got paid for my speaking skills the last 3 years, so I suppose that I don't have any complaints.

what do you mean, I talk good.

Its getting so bad out there, that Churchs Chicken is running an ad campaign, "I know what good is!"

That sounds like something a three year old would mutter.

As long as they are speaking English I will give them a pass on it being proper or not.......it is the effort that is important.

I'm amazed how ignorant the general populace is, it is almost viral, with everything it touches going down an order of magnitude. Schools to continue to get worse, standards get lower, being smart is considered "showing off". In fact, I think a good percentage of our country is just waiting for their evolutionary clocks to tick backwards.

I have a coworker who speaks so quietly I can't hear him when he's talking. Luckily he always talks about boring shit and is the most pussy-whipped man on the planet, so I'm never really missing much.

A lot of people I know use "like" every other word, including my brother's girlfriend. Very irritating. That's very different, though, from using "like" as an intensifier with the same meaning as "approximately."

I'm constantly shocked at the poor English skills of people in my college, and worse, that of people who have GRADUATED from college.

How the fuck do you graduate from a 4 year university with 5th grade English skills?

The movie (soon to be documentary) Idiocracy by Mike Judge covers this subject.

Thank you for this information. I will have to find out more about this movie at my earliest convenience.

Maybe try to build a new circle of friends who are interested in more intellectual pursuits.

this is something usually brought up and debated by those that simply don't get out.

9 times out of 10 only an idiot would not understand what is being said.

9 times out of 10 only the person that is the party ender decides to hash out grammar and spelling (esp. typos).

just makes you look like a bitch.

If I can understand you, I'm ok with improper English.

I think that has a lot to do with the problem. Yes, I accept improper English as well, since it would be considered rude to correct someone you do not know well. But if we all did our part as speakers and listeners, life would be much better for all.

Drive through at McDonalds? 😛

My only beef is with the illegal aliens, and now that I think about it, their refusal to learn english is only a minor issue compared to them simply being here.

So have you ever gone to a large city? You must die when you go to one.

I live in an area with 1.7 million citizens, which I think is a large enough number of people. In fact, I think its over populated. 🙁
