Are you the type that is content with how a car comes from factory?

Through all the cars that I've owned I always had to modify it in some way. No, I'm not talking about cheap mufflers or giant spoilers. I've always keep the mods clean and simple. Even if I could afford a M3 or a Modena I'll still mod it some way such as a nice set of wheels or a nice sound system.

Depends on what kind of car it is. If it's a Ferrari or something I definitely wouldn't mod it... can't mess with perfection. However if it was anything but a supercar, then probably.

To me that is all a waste of money. I still get where I'm going comfortably with listening to the music I want to hear. You couldn't pay me to mod a vehicle.

But heres a beer to all of those who do like mods. Just keep them from being eye sores and I'm fine. Last week I saw a giant spoiler about 1.5 feet high on an old 4-cylinder beater. The funny thing is the spoiler was made of cardboard and ducttape. It was clearly showing its age, the cardboard had rotted in the last rain. Oh, and it had a racing strip - made of duct tape. Why God why would anyone spend the time and money to do that? I wished I had my camera on me.

I would mod it if there was something that bugged me enough to make me change it (ech, my car's speakers buzz, but i dont have money to fix it now...) aiee!

and if i had money

The only part of my car that I've ever modified is the horn, because the stock horn was so weak it was all but useless.

I consider appearance mods to be a waste my money... my car is transportation, not a status symbol. I do find it hilarious the way some people modify theirs.

Performance mods are also a waste of my money. I don't need a race car, the performance of my car is adequate.

I haven't noticed as many absurd spoilers lately... I think most of them are putting the money into wheels (or "rims" as they call them) these days. It seems the bigger the wheel the better. Eventually the wheel will overtake the tire entirely and there'll be nothing but a thin layer of solid rubber for traction.

depends, i might modify like the stereo or add a spoiler. you know, stuff that you didn't want to get overcharged when purchasing the car.

personally I think modifying cars = money down the drain

but some people do it as a hobby.. so I guess different strokes for different folks

Many people who mod, well mod correctly, mod it for the enjoyment in themselves and not for other people.

If that's the case, I'd expect to see a lot more interior mods than exterior mods.

Pretty much, unless it comes with steel wheels & hub caps. I prefer real rims. Would also prefer a full-sized spare, but on anything other than a Truck, SUV, or *maybe* a full-sized car, that isn't really possible.

i would never mod a car beyond putting in a CD player if it didn't have one. that money should go to either a better car or something more productive. modding never increases the value of the car, and often decreases the value, whereas the better car will be worth more than the sh!tty one (modded or not). it pisses me off that it's practically impossible to find a Civic Si, S2000, or even an NSX that hasn't been RUINED by stupid fvcking ricers sticking plastic crap all over the body (and likely not taking care of the car).

there is a company that is already testing a product like this. it's a wheel/tire combo, and the wheel is flexible to simulate tire flex over bumps, with a solid strip of rubber on it. it has no lateral flex or roll-over properties, so it would presumably improve handling (who knows about weight or looks, though).

FYI: M3's and Ferrari's come with nice wheels as standard.

sound would really be the only thing I would consider upgrading...

willing to bet that the group that would want to modify their cars would under the age of 25...once you get to a point where you realize what the value of money is, other things just take priority...(coming from someone that bought a 62" TV recently 🙂)

Yes I know but I have seen some wheel/tire combos that actually looks better than the factory wheels on these cars.

Whenever I pick up a new car, I always get the audio system changed out that same day. My car is the only place that I listen to music and I need it to sound right.

Considering I'm ripping the whole interior of my car out, and putting down sound deadener, and replacing the factory audio system - no 😛
