Are you the peon type or the owner type of worker?

peon type: a person who is happy to work under a large company who will provide benefits and a steady, satisfactory salary with a chance for raises depending on how hard this person works...

owner type: a person who isn't happy working under someone else's rules, having their income being potentially bound by their stingy bosses, etc...Also this person is willing to take huge financial risks (around $100,000 i guess to startup a business)

you know what i mean...

this question is not asking what you are right now, but what would you be happy with being for the rest of your life?
Happy with being a peon? cool.
Happy with being your own boss? cool.

basically would you rather be an owner of your own business or a peon (ie programmer for microsoft, oracle, etc).

I have the best of both worlds. Security and benefits from a big corporation, but I get to run my group the way I want. The only thing my boss tells me is what direction we're going, and it's up to me to implement the plans and the details.

Hmm, I guess I also have a little of both worlds. I have to listen to my boss, but most of the time I have free reign on the sales floor to do what I want.

Having seen friends, family and indeed...a previous boss go under because they wanted to run their own business....I would have to say a peon...and I am happy being that way...simple guy, simply needs 🙂

I'd rather live in a van down by the river than be stuck in some office job. On the other hand running water would be nice.

I like being a worker-bee. There is a lot less stress being a worker than a manager. Fortunately, in aerospace engineering, the worker-bees make more than mid level managers.

PS. Your descriptions show an slight bias.

I don't like having more than one boss... that sucks monkey turd and sour frog @$$. I don't mind one good boss though.

But I'm not to the level yet where I have the financial capability to pursue my own business. I wouldn't mind being a boss as long as there is minimal management. I'd rather partner with someone than manage them.

i'm more of the work from home in my underwear kind of guy...if I can be a peon and do that, that's cool...if I can do it by owning my own business that's even better.
