Depending on the type and brand, most bagged lettuce and sphinach is prewashed.

Yeah, didn't a whole bunch of people DIE recently from eating bagged spinach? Don't you folks read the papers or surf the news? You must all have rotary phones...

;)

I wash all fruits and vegetables, bagged or not.

i depends, some of it has the E. coli pre-applied, others are washed so you have to drag it through your own cow manure to apply the E. coli

yea but the FDA said its OK to eat now... and after reading it seems that the first symptoms of E. Coli do not start until ~24 hrs after ingestion... i think I just have an upset stomach from eating dirt that may have been on the leaves. Hopefully

I had a bag of triple washed Fresh Express (I think that was the brand) salad a couple of months ago and it was covered in dirt. Triple washed my ass. I always wash as a precaution.

And I got a coupon from Fresh Express for 2 free bags of salad after I called them....

Will washing it even do anything for E. Coli though?

Ah, didn't think so.

Get yourself a good source of gamma or electron radiation, and irradiate the hell out of that spinach. That'll take care of the problem. :D

You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than getting e coli from spinach.

Unless there is some sort of obvious gross contamination, plain washing often has little effect anyway since bateria are often attached to the surface anyway and you will only be removing a few of them. You would need to be using some sort of surfactant or antimicrobial at that point to make any sort of real impact.

lol, I ate a whole bag of spinach right after all the grocery stores pulled everything off the shelves during the E. Coli scare and I was fine. It was kind of scary. By the time I read about the possible contamination I'd already eaten like 2 bowls of the big bag. At that point I was like... meh, if this stuff was bad, then I've already got it... so I might as well finish it! And I did. :D

Honestly, don't worry about it.
I am almost positive you are making yourself sick thinking you got sick because you didn't wash the greens.
Stop freaking out... take some alkaseltzer (seriously) and relax. you will be fine. The FDA is now REALLY strict on bagged greens so you don't have to worry.

Washing won't do a thing for it. (I see someone above mentioned this.)

You could irradiate it with ultraviolet light to kill all sorts of critters like e. coli, but the fvcktards in this country who know nothing about science somehow see the word "radiation" and freak out about it. Unfortunately the fvcktards form a vocal (majority?)

of course it's not... why would you?

1, it's prewashed
2, the company wouldn't want to be sued by people who didn't wash the spinach after they opened the bag
3, read what the bag says
