er, he was meaning 20% is easy to figure, and it is, no thought at all to it. just do 10% and double it. anyone that is smart enough to think of giving a tip can do 10% and double.

he delivered the pizza to you didnt he? why would you not tip him.

Probably because you've already payed a delivery charge to the company. And, most of the time, the pizza guy doesn't wait for you to check your pizza at the door. So, if you get the wrong one, not only have you wasted your money on the pizza, you've also lost another couple of bucks to a guy who delivered you the wrong stuff.

There is no need to insult each other.

That's the percentage that I usually tip. I guess I am better than the person who claimed to tip 20%, don't you think?

When I bought my $30,000 vehicle, I tipped the salesperson 23.35% of the price. I guess that's fair.

Yeah, fair to the salesperson, but not to you. You just payed $30,000 for the car, and you want to give another $7000 as tip? Yeah right. In case you don't realize, salespeople work partly on comission. They are already getting paid for selling you the car, why give them free money they didn't earn?

I don't believe in percentage tipping.
I think it's stupid. You go to a $10 diner or $50 restaurant, the waitress is still doing the same thing. Why should one get $2 tip, and the other $10? When I am with friends I tip 15% just not to hear a lecture. When I am alone, I tip $1 for taking the order + 50 cents each time the waitress comes back to the table, and round it up to whole dollars for meal+tip. I think $2 is the norm for delivery people.

<<Hell no...it's their job and they get paid for it plus, around here at least, they get paid for their mileage or have a car provided by work. If they ask for a tip from me I usually tell them to get an education and find a better job. >>

DAMN i hate comments like that. dude, they get paid, but jobs like waiting tables, sales rep, and pizza people aren't even required to get paid 5.15. I'm not saying some pizza delivers make well over that, but if you live in a small town, most of the time they don't get paid well. Tip the people. 15% at least, but dont be a scrooge. Give cheerful, be cheerful!

<< If you can't figure 20% on something then you REALLY need help.

Can you provide me some help?

I usually tip 23.35%. Find the 23.35% of $14.32 in your head, smart boy.
>>

Uh, Duck, he said 20%. If you passed basic algebra, you could probably realize that you just move the decimal point over to the left (no, your OTHER left, closer to the dollar sign) one place, and then just double the number. Not rocket science.

The dude probably saw that you wrote a check for the exact amount and thought you were about to stiff him, hence the weird look. But then you surprised him with the two in cash. I can relate, it happens all the time. For future reference, just write the tip into the check. It?s actually quicker and easier for the driver.

$2.00 is an OK tip, but not that great, especially if you?re near the edge of the store?s delivery area. I get 4 and 5 buckers all the time but I often only get a dollar plus the change. Sometimes I only get the change, which is almost as offensive as a complete stiff.

If you have a favorite pizza place and you order often and tip well, you will get better service on average than someone else who habitually tips only a dollar or so. Make no mistake: most of us are pretty smart and we have good memories.

Having been a pizza driver for a couple years, let me tell that you ALWAYS tip the delivery man or woman. Especially today with gas prices going through the roof. As far as percentages, I always say at least %10 percent(but if its under $10, for god sakes, at least give them a buck). I hated delivering $250+ orders to a local church and then get a $2.00 tip from some damn old woman. The worst people are the ones that send their damn 3 yr old to the door, just so they don't have to face you and say,"Hey, I'm a tightass!". Although, one time the kid forget his dad's instructions and took off after he gave me all the money. I got $12 tip off that bad boy. Oh, and men do tip way better than women.

<< $2 tip on a $12 pizza is pretty good, if I were the delivery guy I would have gladly accepted. >>

Think about this everyone: If the pizza is a small and cost $10, or if it's XL and costs $20, the pizza guy is still just bringing one pizza to your house. yeah, $2 on a $12 pizza is alright, but think about it frm the pizza guy's view - well.....never mind.....he's some pimply-faced nerd, making minimus wage because he dropped out of high school..... :)

for some reason, i am quite generous in tipping pizza guys.

normally, i give $5 for any order under $20. It can be $10 order and I tip the guy $5. But that is just me; all my roomies think i'm crazy and normally try to pick up the tab of the pizza cuz they think i'm "throwing my money away"

o well

Most of the pizza delivery folks in my town are college kids (this town is a college town).

I ALWAYS tip pizza delivery people so long as the pizza gets there in a reasonable amount of time, and there's no delivery charge. They make a minimum wage, and do NOT get a company car.

If you don't have the money to tip, you should go pick up the pizza yourself.

Folks, a LOT of minimum wage (or slightly above) workers are college kids working their way through school. Even if they're not, the fact that they HAVE a job is commendable, and NOT worthy of scorn. Hell, they could just quit and make more from public aid, but choose the honorable thing and WORK. The least you could do is tip them. Isn't that better than paying welfare for them?

For all those who don't tip... try putting yourself in these people's shoes. Or did all of you non-tippers never have a first job BEFORE you finished college?

Great, and anandtech elitist squad is out and in full force tonight. For all of you that say "get a better job", you can go straight to hell. These delivery drivers probably work harder than you EVER will in your entire pathetic surburbanite life. I think work in the service/general labor industry should be made mandatory for all yiddiot college grads that think their tough sh!t because their mommy and daddy paid for 4 years of college. You get no respect from me, the people who work hard every day to make your pathetic-ass easy life possible are the ones that deserve it. Also those that taught themselves, and do stuff because they WANT to learn and be good at something, and not make a quick buck.

Oh well.

I tip very well to pizza drivers. :) When I worked as a Sys. Admin. we'd tip a good $10 at LEAST for a couple of pizza's. It wasn't unheard of for them to make off with $20-30, if we didn't have any 10's between us. I mean, WTF? We'd always get our pizza in record time, and we make far more money than we need for sitting on our ass all day typing. Give someone 1/100th of your weekly wage and you just upped their salary by about 25% for that night. At least.

After having worked for years in "hard labor" areas, I can tell you that no IT worker has a fricken clue about hard work. Most are idiot whiners who have never had to do any hard work their entire life. Which pretty sums up the attitude of about 90% of this forum.

Thanks, Phil! I bust my ass dodging drunk drivers nearly every Friday and Saturday night, manuevering around the local crackheads on Franklin Avenue, bribing Cops (J/K), and putting far too much wear and tear on my cars for Uptown Pizza. Thanks for saying what I'm too nice to say. You don't work for Honeywell at 2710 5th by any chance? Those guys are good to us.

the later at night the delivery is made, the further up it goes, from $0.20 to $0.25
