That's just economics. Nobody uses a $100,000 logic analyzer to troubleshoot a $100 disposable consumer electronics part. RMA it or narrow it down and throw parts at it.
Well, they do if they expect to do it at least 1000 times. :p

i was a lot smarter before i had brain surgery :(

thankfully, even though it damaged my memory, it did nothing to my pome writing abilities :awe:

Did you really have brain surgery? Would you mind sharing some of the details?

I'm very interested and would greatly appreciate it.

I dunno, even warranty repair shops just replace parts until it works. I have even seen PC repair shops start with the CPU and replace the mobo last until it finally worked. Who ever Circuit City used to use was the worst about that.

Nah, you have $100,000+ scopes to build million dollar missiles, not fix $150 TVs.

He is talking about repair, not replacement. Putting in a new mobo isn't repair. Tracing leads down, replacing caps, reflowing chips is repair.

Sometimes its ASICs and you can't do much. Either its a proprietary part you can't buy or the unit cost for one equals the cost of just replacing the whole board.

Consumer electronics aren't cost effective to diagnose and repair, and an EE knows that better than anyone.

I define smart as being equal to the quantitative cycles per second the cerebrum gives off in oscillations by way of neural oscillations.

LOL! Whatever.

I define smart as having some god damn commonsense. You can't teach that and if politicians had that we be better off.

A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them.

Here's a perfect example of someone with zero fucking commonsense.
