Are you serious? HR fail

So I was called up to come in for interview this morning right. Lady who called me yesterday stated after reviewing my resume, sounds like I'd be excellent match for position. Sounds awesome to me, let's do this!
Get out there this morning on time, ready to smash this out. Kind of intimidated by this large group I'd be interviewed with, but whatever.
Few minutes into dudes presentation, I realize... I don't think they called us out here for IT opportunities. But sat it out, and remained polite.

HR called out a group of IT people for sales positions.

Fucking seriously?
As soon as he finished his spiel, the entire room was out the door. Dude looked dumbfounded, that was the best part.
I did stay for a moment, inquired if they were looking to fill IT positions, and gave him my card.
What the fuck?

It's possible for people to have both an IT and sales skill set. Perhaps someone unhappy in IT would be happier in sales.
 
you dind't discuss the job position with the HR lady on the phone at all before you went in for the interview?

sounds like a fail on your part as well.
 
Same thing happened to me a while back. I was out of work for almost 2 years and finally got a call for an interview. I went out, cut my super long hair to a crew cut, bought a nice suit for ~$350 and set out to the interview a few days later.

He represented himself as a Chase manager looking to hire IT staff.

It was a recruiter looking to hire salesmen "on behalf" of Chase to sell on the phone for commission. About 10 minutes in, I got up, and he asked me why am I leaving, and I just said plainly, this is a fucking scam. Go fuck yourself, it has nothing to do with my skillset that we spoke about on the phone. About 5 others followed me out.

This is why I never post on sites like Monster or HotJobs or shit like that ever anymore.
 
You always need to know the company and position that they are actually talking to you about.

Most honest ones will admit that it is a sales slot.

If you do not recognize the company or slot; ask upfront.

But when she called, I was in middle of drinking in a bar & was kind of caught off-guard. But tried to speak as little as possible without giving away I had some drinks in my system.
Although I learned lesson you's speak of & will keep this in mind when receiving calls for future possible employment opportunities

I was gonna be in Chicago this evening so there's no point of going back home to come right back out here. So gonna hang out around Chicago for the day until showtime.
 
This is fairly common, their strategy is that it's easier to find an IT person to do sales than trying to train sales people in IT or finding sales people good at IT already.

It's a fail on part of the OP for not doing his homework and finding out exactly what the position was. People tend to do this though, get so excited about landing an interview that they fail to ask the proper questions before going.

I don't think you understand; he was going to smash it out. You can't smash it out over the phone. You need to be in person!!

All mockery aside, OP, you should have asked the proper questions.

I was once "auditioning" for a role on a TV show. They told me I was great and wonderful. But, I need acting lessons. They could help me out and do their best to ensure I get the best parts for top dollar,... IF I sign up for 20 classes or something at $500 each. My fault for not pinning these suckers down for the details on what TV show, etc.
 
The experts say that you should never assume the interviewer is prepared, or even knows what they're doing.

Was it actually HR or did they just get some poor schmuck from the office to do it?
 
There are lots of companies out there that put up job postings which are nothing like the actual job they interview for. It's unethical, and it wastes the interviewees time.
